Comcast, most places with Comcast have a 2.5 GB per month bandwidth limit. You could call them, and ask them if they can raise it since you have so many people playing games, browsing the web, and so forth.

I know people with 4-7 people in their house, and they have never hit the limit. They are pretty good unless you really abuse it.

If you didn't know they were sued for limiting speeds, and so now they limit you by only allowing certain amounts a month.

I would call, and ask. I can't remember the numbers, but something like 1 hour of gaming uses 100mb or something.

Yeah, AFOAF works for comcast and they won't raise the limit but you have to work pretty hard to reach the cap..I haven't had a problem yet...I wouldn't worry about it. It's the guys running servers out of their bedrooms that they are worried about...The way AFOAF explained it, they put a cap because the bandwidth hogs slow the whole system down during peak times..Sometimes the overload can shut down a whole node (where all the signal comes in to feed your area). So really it's not a money thing it's basically because the are trying to stuff 10 LBS. of shit in a 5LB. bag (phone, internet,tv). Hope this helps..

Yea, I had this problem, and they had to expand the node. My ping is rarely over 70, and at peak times it was hitting 400+. That shit wasn't working for me, and I called to bitch. They finally gave in after I had the entire neighborhood calling.

thats just ridiculous, they sell more bandwidth from a single server than it can handle, so they limit you to how much you can use.  I pay for 15mbps internet, therefor, I should be able to use that, at max saturation, 24x7 if i want...and I thought time warner was bad...wish i was back in my old town with suddenlink, they were great, never went down, always fast speeds, and friendly.  I've actually had TWC hang up on me one time when I was bitching at them for changing my connection speed without telling me, causing my internet service to practically slow to a crawl, since i am one of those people that run a home server...

peace

Yes, AFOAF said they will do a node split when speeds are wicked slow..I guess ping rates should be around 25ms depending on which site your pinging...AFOAF usually uses a site like yahoo or google to run a ping test..
