Does Vista Suck or What?

I bought a Toshiba Satellite A205.  This is my first computer with Vista, and I hate it!!!  I know this is the Shroomery, but I'm sure many of you have solved this problem:  I want to put good ole' Windows XP on it.

I know how to format (I've been doing this since 2001) but when I boot from the Windows XP setup disc, it gets to the point where it searches for available hard disks.  It says that there aren't ANY hard disks installed and it just restarts the computer. 

I've tried (this morning) installing XP by making a nee partition on the hard drive and booting the setup disk again from the bios.  Still nothing!

I can't figure out why the setup disk isn't able to recognize the hard disk.

I bought a Satellite L355-S7812 at the beginning of summer, and it took some time to get used to Vista, but now I like it.  You just need to adjust the settings.

Xp setup probably doesn't recognize the hdd controller. Download a driver and offer it to XP setup at the appropriate moment via a floppy or usb stick.

The quicker and more sustainable option is to just quit whining and get used to Vista. Since SP1, it's pretty much ok and there's no really good reason to go back to xp anymore.

I've actually had less problems using vista than I did using XP.

go to your bios when starting up, usually press F2 or something on the first black screen when powering up,

set it to boot from cd first then harddrive second.

restart with CD in the drive. in setup select it to format your hardrive NTFS quick.

then make partition then install.

I actually jumped to a MacBook in '06 and haven't looked back. I had used Windows for over a decade before jumping to Apple and thought XP was a decent OS. Every time I jump on Vista though I hate it. What I like about Mac is that it tries to think for you, but it does it in a smart way or a logical way. Windows Vista tries to think for you but in a poor or illogical way. I feel Vista treats me like a three year old with how it double checks whether I want to allow or deny programs. Also I feel it's a cheap buggy program because it randomly blanks out and goes to a black screen when you open a new program. I know in the long run it doesn't really matter but to me it shows a lack of sophistication by the designers of Vista. I'm sure I would grow to be okay with Vista or even somewhat like it if I had to use it. But honestly Macs are so ridiculous awesome for me and my lifestyle that there is no point to even try to adjust to something that appears inferior to me.

Vista kicks ass if you tune it right and remove all the bullshit... It may be a resource hog, but my HP laptop runs 64-bit Vista home premium flawlessly.

Only issues:

Onscreen volume control was funky, removed from msconfig (solved)
Sleep mode is wacky, I use hibernate anyway.
Can't uninstall Sims Life Story bullshit, but it's only 2GB of my 320 so no problems.

I really like XP but if Vista works, it works well.

sometimes you will have no xp drivers for the hardware in the laptop as well, which can be a bitch.  I had to put xp on a guys vista laptop for him, not only were there no drivers for the onboard sound, but also none for the wireless.  He was fine with this however, as he needed it for some sort of equipment that is used to trace gas pipes underground, so strictly for work...make sure you have all the drivers you need if your going to go to xp, before you start doing it...

I hated Vista too when I first got it on my new laptop.
I went through hell installing XP, finding the proper supported drivers.. took me 2 weeks and countless blue screens and reinstalls to get XP running smoothly.

But this was back before SP1.

6 months later or so I decided I wanted Vista for its cool new stuff (Aero, Readyboost, DX10, etc)
I re-installed Vista, got all the latest updates, (it's come a long way since it first got released..)
and then I tweaked the SHIT out of it.

It runs smooth as fuck, I like it better than XP now.
It generally needs more RAM to support it smoothly than XP does...
but like RoosterCogburn said.. when Vista run well.. it runs DAMN well.

Just spend some time with it. TWEAK THAT SHIT OUT

...good advice...except now a lot of the hardware being shipped on new laptops don't have an XP driver...
IMHO the Toshiba's are the worst laptops for Vista right now.

Intel 945GM chipset is hard to downgrade. Even after the downgrade you will be facing loss of fn keys because the drivers from toshiba for xp sp2 for all a205-xxxx models simply don't work.

Any microsoft product is better like 2-3 years after it comes out.

Most businesses with any sense never switch right away.

I have never actually sat down with Vista. I just don't have any real problem with XP right now, why bother?

I had a few problems when I first got it, but I have zero problems now.  I guess the updates fixed everything.  I like it now.

If you still want xp though you have to rip an ISO of the disk to your HD first then slipstream the drivers for your notebook into the ISO, burn the image and then install.  Also you have to change your HD format because of the SATA controllers, xp install disk can't read your hd due to this.
