Tampanensis on Wheat Berries and WBS initial observations

For my first grow (P. tampanensis), I am experimenting with WBS, and wheat berries (no rye berries available anywhere, near).

I inoculated jars with mycelium syringes I had made. WBS seems to have been colonized slightly faster than the berries, though this could be due to differential concentration of mycelium in the syringes. A 50/50 mix of the two seems to have colonized even faster.

Wheat berries have been easy to work with. I soaked them over night and they were ready to PC without any simmering. They at least doubled in volume. In contrast the WBS wasn't quite ready after soaking for 24 hrs. After PCing the berries were far easier to break up than the WBS and the 50/50 mixture (as one would assume) lying in the middle. I had to bash the WBS jars against a tire whereas the berries took a shake.

My initial reaction is, I prefer the berries but a 50/50 mix seems to work great and would help reduce substrate costs. I will post again later to give yield results.
