i'm only an hour or so north of Seattle & I have yet to see any Cyans from this weekends rain, nor any real new mushie growth. I've been checking many spots over the past couple of weeks. Has anyone been finding actives in the Whatcom county area? I'm very eager to gobble down some freshies, but damn, maybe I just haven't found the right patch, yet. There are plenty of, what seems to be, alder/cedar chip patches, but only occasionally is some non-active mushie growing there. It's raining right now, so hopefully this next rainfall, plus the sun will bring up some magic 8)

four cyan patches I know of and picked multiple dry ounces from last year have yet to pin.  don't be discouraged, they just need a little temp drop.  they will come.

My best patch from last year hasn't done anything yet but it hasn't gotten that cold since it started raining down here yet.  A little temperature drops and things will start poppin' off!  I AM STOKED IT'S THAT TIME AGAIN! Good to see some familiar faces!

Because I don't have a camera, I borrowed a friends camera and took pics, but unfortunately, the battery has run out :shake:

I'll get them up tomorrow!

Anyone find anything in or near Tacoma?

I live in Bellingham, right now for school... but I'm from a suburb right near Tacoma & I know of a few patches there, which I checked over the weekend (after a good rain & some sun, when everyone else on here was finding patches) & there wasn't much of anything, not even pins. I'm not sure how, but some areas of Washington are growing cyans while others aren't? :frown:

This week looks like the temps should drop to low 40's at night! That should get them popping

only in big cities? [Re: liloldme]
    #9039683 -

I realize these are distributed "from SF to Vancouver" and are in mostly manmade areas... but I am wondering about very small coastal towns.  If they have the alder chips, has travel up and down spread them enough that its worth looking?  Do they pop up everywhere that alder is put down in their range, or moreso within _x_ miles of an intentional patch?  Would you stop in weirdo little towns like Newport and Lincoln City, OR and so on?

Oh hell yes! And don't limit yourself to just wood chips. These little guys don't just rely on piles of man made mulch! They love hard wood roots from alder trees, piles of mulch, rows of grassy fields that have wood mulching in them.. So on and so forth! Don't believe the hype!!
Peace!

Mantid, a good thing to remember is the pattern which dictates what time fram a mushroom should be in season.

If you spend enough years hunting for them, you can know about what time they will be popping up.

I use the shroomery to find out when I should start hunting.  Usually the first posts will be from far north, in Canada.

After that, you'll notice a pretty constant movement south.  Eventually we'll start seeing posts form California.

At this very moment, Canada is getting heavy flushes of P. cyans.  We will start seeing alot of posts of P. cyans finds from up there, in the next few days.  I, for one, will be visiting north, very soon.

i'd say yes. check in any coastal town with lots of dune grass by the beach and woodchips. it would'nt hurt. might even be fruitful:mushroom2:if ya know what im sayinnnnn

Thanks for that helpful info. The whole migration of them makes a whole lot of sense. I'm getting so excited.

Also, i need to add, they grow fairly quickly.  A bare patch, today, might be a fully rotted patch in a week or two, so don't ever assume there will not be growth, just because there isn't at this moment.

Revisiting a potential patch too late could cause extreme sadness.

I had a thought for those of us in the PDX area... Mt. Hood. It should be quite a bit cooler just a little ways up the mountain. Do cyans not grow at altitude? Has anyone found Cyans above 1000 feet?

I was told by a shroomery friend of cyan growth at high altitudes.  It may have been folklore, but he seemed like a person who wouldn't make that up.

I see no reason why altitude in and of itself should matter.  What would matter are temps and rainfall... and of course a substrate.  While Mt. Hood may have the right climate, you may have a hard time finding woodchips up there.

I've heard Portland doesn't really chip the way Seattle does, and when they do chip it's the wrong kind.  Start a revolution and start spreading your own alder chips!
