Question about cannabutter

After a few failed attempts to make edibles. I'm unsure as to where I may be going wrong. Generally I have used around 300-400g butter, up to 3g of good quality gunja.

I just read another method using 1part butter to 3parts water. After straining, it can be placed in the fridge and scrape the butter off the top, which seems like a better idea.

Also, how long should I cook the cannabutter? I have heard the butter should be greenish, which I usually get within a few minutes of chucking the weed in, but I always go a bit longer (prolly 20-30mins) of simmering. Then it becomes more of a darker gold color.

Found something interesting too:
"The presence of little sugar in alcohol or in an oil-based confection may somewhat facilitate the assimilation of the THC. Too much sugar, however, can interfere with the digestion of the fats and their payload of THC."

Any help? I know supposedly this all really simple, but I haven't any luck yet, and I get sad when I waste weed lol

How hot are you cooking this?  Remember, THC is very heat sensitive.  I would reccomend the use of a double boiler next time you make this.  This is a pot of boiling water with a metal bowl sitting on top of the pot.  This is a surefire way to keep your butter from getting too hot.  Just remember to stir constantly, so as to maintain an even temperature throughout the butter.

You are simmering too long, methinks.  Once your butter is greenish, STOP COOKING.  Also, you should probably have an ice bath ready to set your double boiler bowl when you are done, so as to ensure an immediate end to the cooking process.

Also, the tiniest bit of liquor, while not particularly improving the flavor of the butter, will help to extract more of the actives out.  I'd only put in a shot per three sticks, though.  Take it real easy with the alchy.

The water method is a good way of getting the chlorophyll and crap out of the butter, leaving only the actives, but until you manage to make your first batch of active butter, I wouldn't mess with the water method.

I usually simmer the butter for 30mins all up, but I've read teks saying you should let it simmer for up to 7hrs!

3g is well enough to be orally  active between 2 people right? Most recipes I've seen are using 1oz of stems/leaves.
I only have access to good bud (which I'm not complaining about) but even 1/2 an Oz cost me well over $100 which would make for f*^kin expensive brownies.

I'll try the pot suspension and the ice bath next time. I won't bother with the Alcohol. Also would you say Ghee works better than butter? I'm determined to get this right.

Make any noticeable differences?
I was thinking, THC is fat soluble right? Wouldn't that mean technically we can 'deep dry' weed and use the oil? Hash flake lol

Does any one know the exact fat's that the THC mostly absorbs into?
