Hmm, so she supports Roev Wade but thinks it should be held on a state level?

That's kind of stupid and contradictory.

I'm really sick of people saying Roe is bad policy, that's not the fucking point.  It's a constitutional right, you don't change those cuz of policy considerations.


Now I happen to think Roe was pretty arbitrary and without much evidence to support its decision, but whatever.  If they would have taken a philosophical approach that made sense to defining the right then maybe I'd sing a different tune.

But if you oppose roe, oppose it because the constituion doesn't protect privacy or that right doesn't extend to abortion.


And I think its pretty obvious the woman is completely fucking ignorant of any and everything regarding the federal govenrment.

Marburry v. Madison? Brown v Board?  Youngstown Steel?  Miranda? Mapp v. Ohio? ny times v sllivan? None of those ring a bell you dimwit?


This woman is an idiot, and its obvious she knows no supreme court decisions.  What the hell did she learn in school?

Well said, I've been to more foreign countries than this woman.  The level of ineptitude she shows, each and every time she is on camera, is fucking astounding.

But that's the whole point. It's NOT a constitutional right. The Supremes were writing new legislation with Roe v. Wade - that's the whole nub of the issue. There are very, VERY few Constitutional scholars at this late date who would disagree that Roe v Wade was a gigantic overreach by SCOTUS. They fucked it up bigtime.

It is now the law of the land, true, but the Supremes fucked it up every bit as bad as they fucked up Kelo.

As for the question asked to Palin, unless I misheard, she was asked which Supreme Court decisions she disagreed with other than Roe v Wade. Maybe that's the only one she disagrees with.

Where did you pull that out of?  Not from what she said.

She made two statements:

1) there is a right to privacy based upon the US Constitution
2) the individual states should have the right to decide Roe vs Wade type controversies

Personally, I don't see why people feel that "nor shall any State deprive any person of life, liberty, or property, without due process of law" has any relation to privacy, not do I see why people consider a fetus to be a person.

How many SCOTUS decisions do you disagree with?

More to the point, how many could you name off the top off your head when it is introduced as a new topic of conversation?

I know over the years I've disagreed with more than a dozen I've come across, but fucked if I can name more than two or three by name right this minute, and I'd probably forget half of them by topic even if given an hour to think about it.

And I guarantee you I - like most of the regulars here - am more familiar with the body of the Supremes' work than all but a few per cent of Americans at large. I also guarantee you that I - as a stone Laisez-faire Capitalist - disagree with far more SCOTUS decisions than Palin as a run-of-the-mill conservative does. Do you think she cares about  Raich, for example?

Here's a question for you. You seem to think you know pretty much all there is to know about Sarah Palin, and you seem pretty certain she should be disagreeing with a couple more Supreme Court decisions. So why not name for us two SCOTUS decisions she SHOULD have mentioned to Couric?

Biden couldn't name any either... except the one involving a bill he himself passed. I didn't see Biden talking about Marbury or Plessy or Dred Scott or Kelo or Raich in there. Did any of the rest of you?

I'm quite sure had Palin ever had one of her bills rejected by SCOTUS, she would have mentioned it to Couric.
