You would be suprised how much they can grow with just one good day of rain.
The ones I found last week were growing pretty quick in the dry weather we are having.
I think its the morning fog though.
I may be wrong but give it a day or two of some good steady rain and think they will be poppin up everywhere

I live in Bellingham, WA. I have found some potentially promising patches, but would like to find some more. I also pick down near Tacoma when I go home on weekends.. I'm so stoked for the rain!

I found a good spot where a lot of cyans are going to start flourishing, as soon as it rains. There's a thick layer of really light-colored woodchips in someone's yard that's really close to where I enjoy my afternoon joints.

Best thing is, I only have to drive like, 5 miles!

YESSSSS. I think I'll be trippin saturday night if they grow enough by then.

"As a man who has devoted his whole life to the most clear headed science, to the study of matter, I can tell you as a result of my research about atoms this much: There is no matter as such. All matter originates and exists only by virtue of a force which brings the particle of an atom to vibration and holds this most minute solar system of the atom together. We must assume behind this force the existence of a conscious and intelligent mind. This mind is the matrix of all matter."  --Max Planck

does the wood chips look like heavy mycelia has covered it? if so I also found a huge pile of wood chips in a park close to my house covered in mycelia no pins yet but has that fungus smell like with birthing a jar.

Musicpoose, do you go to evergreen? I just started classes today too and I go there. I'm trying to find good spots around the area as I am new here.

I do not go to evergreen. A little further north. I picked about %5 of what what there......The best part is, its an off-campus campus if you get me, not alot of students are in the program that uses the facility, and I'm pretty sure I'm the only one who would know anything about these little boomers. It's my own secret little patch!!!!

I have a quick about which ones in a patch are the best to pick, based on bruising color and such. IE a large older cluster of Cyans looks almost black from the bruising of rubbing against each other, wheras younger ones "look" nicer little to no bruising less "slimy" looking. Does it matter?

just dont pick the ones that are entirely black, and dry the ones with black spots on them really well, as its most likely bacterial rot.

otherwise, why wouldnt they all be best to pick?

and try to let them mature fairly good before picking, let the little guys get big, you will get more mushrooms in the long run.

Keep in mind that the black, if it is limited to the tops of the caps, is probably just the result of spores falling onto them, and doesn't make them any less suitable for consumption than anything else.

I second that notion.

Whatever they are they don't look like Cyans to me.  The fattening of the stem near the bottom, the lack of any bruising, the thin and papery-looking nature of the caps, the light gills...
