Erythroxylum coca

From what I understand this plant prefers an even 60 degrees Fahrenheit with fairly dry, acidic soil and high relative humidity. Even though it prefers such a low temperature, any frost at all and it's dead.

The seeds are, from what I've read, not viable long after the berries are picked and processed. And germination can take 3 weeks or more.

Talk about difficult! :eek:

Has anyone here had any luck growing this? I wouldn't even care about the cocaine content, I would be content using the leaves as salad since they are so nutritious.

i grew the plant for years but i have never had any luck with seeds (prolly because of the time it took to ship them)

there are a few members that have grown them from seeds with great results

Why fool with e coca when e novogranatense is just as good and much easier to grow? E novo likes it warm, around 70 to 90. Frost will kill it too but it's all around easier. There is a thread on it if you want growing tips.

There are some who will argue but e coca is specifically illegal in usa and e novo is merely in a gray area. No one has gotten convicted of growing it absent evidence of drug use or processing.
