Erythroxylum coca seedlings (pics)

Hi,
I thought I should post some pics of Erythroxylum coca seedlings. I managed to get fresh seed, and all germinated. I scratched all the flesh from the seed, washed them only with water, and sticked them about 1 cm deep into wet vermiculite. After 2 weeks they germinated. The parameters were: about 20 C, humidity 80 % to 90 %, and under a 15 W growlux light. These specimens are now about 2 month old. They are now ready to be potted.
Have some fun,
Elektrolurch

I envy you my man. For the pics and for having a source for viable seeds.

those look nice..man I chewed 7 large fresh E. Coca leaves 2 nights ago and I will never do that again! I dont see how those peruvian pickers can chew em, I guess there mouths could build up tolerance. I got a medium stimulant high but the mouth burn that fully peaked 6-10 hrs later far outwieghed trhe high.

I don't understand what you mean by shell. I can explain how they look and what I did:
The seed are small red berries. They are kind of elliptic. If you take the red flesh, you have an elliptic seed with a starlike crosssection. I took the flesh away to prevent it from spoiling the seed when being germinated at high himidities. I left the husk of the seed on it! I only shrubbed the red flesh away.
I f you look carefully at the photo, you can see a seed that geminated.
This are taken from the original photos, but if you want I can make ne ones...

Hi,
no mail, no dealer...
Your best bet is to know where a shrub with berries is. If you are not in a place where it grows by itself, then you maybe know someone that has a shrub...

Throughout the Andes and into the Amazon. Plants grown at high altitudes are said to produce more cocaine than plants grown at low altitudes. I think E. novagranatense is less picky about where it will grow.
Btw, Elektrolurch...those are bloody impressive, man.

it grows in south america like in the west of brazil, peru, colombia, bolivia and even up to ecuador, i think... if you dont know what plant you're looking for you can buy a bag of coca leaves (the freshest you can get) - they often carry the little elongate seeds. It would be interesting to try another types of coca like e. novograntense...

I find it amazing that at seedling stage and just beyond, most plants seem to have nearly indentical structure. Why is that? Same thing as a human embryo where we look like the animals we evolved from?

HagbardCeline: I once read that baby lophos have spines for a similar reason, they evolved from spined cacti, and so they have spines when young. Just like we evolved from apes, and so we have little tails in the womb, when we are young. Baby lopho spines are very small and probably couldn't defend them from anything, so it seems possible that they are just some sort of weird evolutionary echo...
