Unknown Mushroom Identification Request

Habitat:
Cow pasture, growing directly out of dung patty

Gills:
Unattached, jet-black in color

Stem:
approx. 7 in; hollow and very thin (almost paper thin)

Cap:
Black/Gray, Bell-shaped/convex, when found was covered in fine mycelium web-like structure

Spore print color:
Unknown at current time

Bruising:
No noticeable bruising

Other information:
This mushroom was very, very fragile. The cap was literally jet-black inside and the stem was so white it looked almost flourescent. I didnt have the opportunity to do a spore print or take any other photos, but if anyone thinks that with more photos/a spore print they could identify it then I could try to pick another. I'm just exceedingly curious to find out what this beautiful mushroom is, thus any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

Coprinellus somethingortheother. There are quite a few of these smaller coprinoids and they often look very similar.

Btw, thanks for putting up a decent ID request and a good pic, that really helps! :thumbup:

looks like what i got growing in my horse pasture

more then likely it's a coprinellus

if the cap gets touched or squezed does it leak black liquid?

Thanks guys. Sorry I couldn't read these until now, I had to run off to class.

Anyway, drmiller I am unsure as to whether it oozes black liquid, I've never tried squeezing it but I definitely will check it out now that you've mentioned that.

Your species is something quite close to c. cinereus, although I'm fairly certain it's not that exact species. There are dozens, if not hundreds, of these coprinoid species that grow directly from dung.

Thank you for your kind words! Please keep in mind that like everyone here, that just like the completest n00b, I'm sometimes a few thousand miles off in my IDs, which is something that happens to all of us now and then. That's something to be mindful of especially in cases you find something you consider ingesting. It's always good to get several opinions and agreement of the more experienced users here.
