But Obama’s relationship with the twins runs still deeper. The two Fannie CEOs who did the most to corrupt the company, Franklin Raines and Jim Johnson, have close ties with Obama. Raines is one of Obama’s ranking economic advisors. Jim Johnson was actually in charge of vetting Obama’s potential running mates until Obama responded to public pressure and threw Johnson under the bus where he now resides comfortably with Tony Rezko.

I wasn't looking for it, but I came across this from the New York Times:

"ACCURACY This advertisement forced a series of heated attacks between the McCain and Obama campaigns beginning on Thursday, a debate that was left unresolved by the end of Friday. What is clear is that the McCain campaign has left the strong impression that Mr. Raines, a former chief executive of Fannie Mae who was ousted in 2004 amid an investigation over its accounting practices, is a close adviser to Mr. Obama, a suggestion that is totally unsupported by the facts. But the advertisement’s basic assertion is not a whole-cloth fabrication. The Post reported on July 16, in a Style-section article on Mr. Raines, that he had “taken calls from Barack Obama’s presidential campaign seeking his advice on mortgage and housing policy matters.” Others immediately repeated the information, including Politico.com.

Until the advertisement came out on Thursday evening, the Obama campaign did not question the claim. Since then, it has vigorously denied a relationship between Mr. Obama and Mr. Raines, with Bill Burton, a spokesman for Mr. Obama, calling the advertisement “another flat-out lie from a dishonorable campaign that is increasingly incapable of telling the truth,” and demanding a correction of the original article from The Post. The campaign also sent by e-mail a statement from Mr. Raines, saying: “I am not an advisor to Barack Obama, nor have I provided his campaign with advice on housing or economic matters.” On Friday, Mr. Burton said that Mr. Raines and Mr. Obama met once on the campaign trail, sometime in 2007 or 2008, and had not talked since then. He said Mr. Raines conducted an “introductory meeting” with a Senate aide to Mr. Obama, also sometime in the last two years."

I highlighted some things for you.  You seem to ignore facts, assume innuendo, accept the statement of Barry's campaign manager as gospel and otherwise forget that the NY Times is an Obama campaign subsidiary.  If the facts are essentially true, and the Washington Post, no friend to the right, reported them to be so (and issued no retraction) then how can there be a problem?  Then there is Johnson, of whom I have seen no denial of his role.  Barry is balls deep in this.  Other facts of note are that Barry is, over the last two decades, the third largest recipient of largesse from the FM twins and he has only been a Senator for two years.  The two largest? Chris Dodd and John Kerry.

There are some facts right there.

Too bad the Times can no longer stick to facts and have to attack the ad on the grounds that it leaves the wrong impression.  Only among the idiot unwashed, of course, the countrified rubes who do most of the work in this country.  Oh, and cling.

How the HELL can you criticize my citation of the New York Times, and then turn around and source from these fascist christian Zionist bullshitters?  New York Times = real news, sorry.  I never implied that I believed anything other than what I sourced, so you're putting words in my mouth.  The article says that Obama talked on the phone to this guy once (like it or not, he's still a leading expert in the area), and I believe that.

Also, I read about the Fannie Mae campaign contributions yesterday in the times.  If they hadn't though?  We're talking 100k spread over more then a decade.  Who the fuck cares?

I highlighted the parts of the story you provided.  I will resubmit one,"basic assertion is not a whole-cloth fabrication."  Which is interesting.  The Washington Post reported Raines was contacted 3 months ago.  Nobody from the Obama camp denied it but now that Raines' former company has cratered they take issue with it.  Meanwhile, not a peep about Johnson.

"fascist christian Zionist bullshitters"
What the fuck kind of disjointed nonsense is that?  They reported facts, something that the NY Times has largely abandoned in it's seemingly endless sea of opinion and advocacy.  A real shame what has happened to that newspaper.

Doesn't it intrigue you the least bit that the biggest recipients of quasi-governmental, failed businesses are Democrats?  Aren't you at all curious why that might be?  And how did such a fresh faced politician get so high on the list so fast, right behind two Senatorial lifers?

I was referring mostly to the weekly standard.

I don't know why they might donate to the republicans rather than the democrats.  Maybe it's because if the gop had its way, fnm and fre wouldn't even exist in the first place and the middle class would be living on the street or renting straight from their rich constituents.  The religious half of the gop is just too ignorant to understand any of this.

Aside from all the mud slinging, the fact of the matter is that McCain yet again makes the facts appear to be something that they're not, which is another way of saying he's a bold-faced liar.

Because the amounts we are talking about are chump change, and since the time Obama has taken office, they just started to get in the mess where government involvement was an inevitability.  They've chosen the side they think is more likely to not wipe them from the face of the earth.

What obnoxious nonsense.  Fannie mae and Freddy mac shouldn't have existed and lots of people got loans who shouldn't have.  You do realize that is the problem here?  Lax lending standards to assholes who aren't paying back.  The entire problem is caused by people not repaying their loans.  The middle class and below who never should have been lent money in the first place because, follow me here, they can't pay it back, one of the defining features of a loan.  That's why they don't call it a gift.

The rest of your populist Know-nothing crap about people living in the streets is just that.  Crap.  The collapse of FM & FM is what happens when you try to social engineer financial markets.  They fail.

The only liar here is, possibly, the Washington Post.  Or Barry and Raines.  Barry and Raines had 3 months to deny the claim the Post made that Raines was advising the campaign on financial matters.  They didn't.  The Post reported it as a fact, not opinion.  Sorry, this "gotcha" has no teeth.

That's funny, because I've read from several sources, including one's linked in this thread, that they did deny that claim.

Also, you've showed your true colors by saying that you could give a shit about social welfare.  Congrats.  Have fun in hell if it really exists, which it doesn't.

We've always known this was a risk.  These were risky loans, not even high risk.  The market took a dump, thanks to Bush.  Aw well.  What it amounts to is subsidization of home loans, not money down the drain.  This is why fnm and fre shouldn't be privatized.  They provide a service that can't realistically be provided by the market, but is an essential service.

That sort of moralistic appeal to emotion is disgusting.

By the way, he never said he couldn't give a fuck about social welfare. I don't believe he would say that, either. I guarantee you he believes private social welfare is just fine and dandy.

And guess what? I agree with him. Am I going to the fiery gates too? :smirk:

Context, Pris, Context. Once again in that video they cut him off to make it sound different. And look, that video is fox news. Look at what else they critisice obama for.

Does being a smoker really make that big of a fucking difference? Fuck fox news they attack obama on so many levels, and Im pretty sure they were the ones that did the same thing to ron paul, trying to fuck up his publicity.

Hes saying hes willing to talk to them, not that they are not a threat. Watch the whole speech below. Its not chopped up like that video. And as u see, in another one of his speeches obama called Iran a great(?) or grave(?) threat.

Here it is without removing words.

He also states that the direct engagement with russia helped prevent nuclear war.

the video I posted shows him catering to the audiences, the
first was "Iran is not a seroius threat", after a week and
some polls, "Iran is a very serious threat", exactly what's so
hard to understand, obama just panders to the audiences he's
speaking to, he's never done anything more, post the vid for
the 'is a serious threat' and then compare the two

http://edition.cnn.com/2008/POLITICS/09/18/navarrette.obama.ad/index.html

Quote:
SAN DIEGO, California (CNN) -- The new offensive in the presidential election is a Spanish-language air war in which each party is trying to convince Latino voters that the other is no amigo to the nation's largest minority and that it did them wrong during the immigration debacle in Congress.

It started last week when the McCain-Palin campaign launched a Spanish ad that, translated, says: "[Barack] Obama and his congressional allies say they are on the side of immigrants. But are they? The press reports their efforts were 'poison pills' that made immigration reform fail. The result: No guest worker program. No path to citizenship. No secure borders. No reform. Is that being on our side? Obama and his congressional allies: Ready to block immigration reform, but not ready to lead."

This week, the Obama-Biden campaign struck back with Spanish radio and TV ads in the heavily-Latino battleground states of Nevada, Colorado and New Mexico. Translated, the TV ad says: "They want us to forget the insults we've put up with, the intolerance. They made us feel marginalized in a country we love so much. John McCain and his Republican friends have two faces. One that lies just to get our vote, and another, even worse, that continues the failed policies of George Bush that put special interests ahead of working families."

Stop the tape! The spots are hard-hitting, but only one hits the target. The McCain-Palin ad is accurate. But the Obama-Biden ad is riddled with problems.

For starters, it diverts attention away from Congress by trying to tie John McCain to conservative radio talk show host Rush Limbaugh, whose picture appears on-screen and who stands accused of referring to "stupid and unskilled Mexicans" and telling immigrants, "You shut your mouth or you get out."

Limbaugh said this week on his radio show that, with the first comment, he was defending the North American Free Trade Agreement and warning against the idea of rewarding "stupid people" with "no skills" in this country -- that is, Americans -- by keeping their jobs in the United States. He suggested letting "stupid and unskilled Mexicans do that work."

With regard to the second comment, Limbaugh said he was simply parroting the philosophy behind Mexican immigration laws, which are notoriously harsh on migrants from Central and South America.

Limbaugh promised listeners that, on Monday's show, he is going to air Spanish translations of the offending remarks to try to set the record straight and clear the air with Latinos.

I'll be listening. But I don't suppose you could say the same for the folks who created the Obama-Biden ad. It is obvious they don't speak "dittohead." They have probably never listened to Limbaugh or any conservative talkers.

Those of us who do know McCain and his bunch aren't exactly "Republican friends." In fact, they're more like enemies. During the Republican primary, right-wing talk show hosts worked overtime to defeat McCain, preferring the more conservative if less electable alternatives Fred Thompson, Mitt Romney or Mike Huckabee.

As for the claim that Republicans have dos caras (two faces), welcome to politics. On the immigration issue, if they pay attention, Latinos will find plenty of that from Democrats. That party had to balance a courtship of Latino voters, who wanted immigration reform, with the edicts of organized labor, which did not. Labor won. That's the whole point of the McCain-Palin ad.

Finally, as for feeling marginalized in a country you love, I have no doubt that many Latino immigrants do love this country, and they contribute enormously to it. Yet others treat it like an ATM, flout its laws, have no interest in becoming legal or a citizen, and -- when they take to the streets -- see no irony in demanding rights from one country while waving the flag of another. Guess what? Such things have a way of making you feel marginalized.

Here's the shame of it: Both political parties have forgotten how to speak to Latino voters. Instead of explaining how their policies will improve people's lives, they try to scare the life out of them. That's unacceptable -- in any language.
