Now McCain and Obama are arguing over who supported banking deregulation back in 1999 (re: Gramm-Leach-Bliley Act; S. 900 [106th]).  Of course, banking deregulation is a stance held almost solely along party lines by the GOP, but now that it's being blamed as a cause of the crisis in the financial markets, McCain will do anything to make it sound to the ignorant like it's not his/their fault.

Check for yourself (as if it's necessary to determine actual ideology here):
http://www.govtrack.us/congress/bill.xpd?bill=s106-900

This clearly shows that the bill was split along party lines in the senate with McCain and the GOP voting for and the Dems and Biden voting against.  But if you listen to McCain, you'd think the opposite happened, because he says that he didn't vote for the "final bill," also called a conference report (the bill is already all but passed at this point).  If you look, you can see that 90 senators voted for the conference report and he just pulled one of his famous no shows.  Biden of course was one of the 90 senators that approved the compromise between the house and senate versions of the bill.

Any questions, class?

Not to mention that whenever there's anything slightly beneficial in the economy, McCain takes credit for it by saying he was on the Commerce Committee.

This is not hot air, this is a legitimate concern. McCain is now all for regulation, when throughout his career he has staunchly stood on party lines and said "I am a deregulator." And the very reason he didn't vote for it was, astonishingly , absent.

That wouldn't be quite as laughable if the SEC hadn't exercised its authority this morning to do just that.  It's what they're their for.  I'd trust them over a bunch of legislators, and apparently they felt the same way, because the bill never even came up for debate.  You're going to have to do better than that.

This bill was brought up 2 times before 2005. And was put down(not even talked about?). but what the goverment is talking now was brought up back in 2005 and two other sessions?
  http://www.govtrack.us/congress/billtext.xpd?bill=s109-190

I don t know sounds like the same thing everyone talking about doing now? But if it was passed then might not be as bad? who knows?

That bill looks almost identical to the previous one.  I'll be honest with you: I don't understand the bill's real intent.  It seems to me that they are trying to create a new agency with administrative powers that already exist in other agencies (HUD, SEC), and giving it sole discretion over those powers (thereby adding a degree of separation).  I admit the idea has merit on the surface, but I'm not knowledgeable enough to make an informed decision.  My impression though is that this is too little too late.  It doesn't really fall under adding additional regulation or deregulation.  I was unable to find a critique of the bill from a neutral and informed standpoint.  If anyone can find that, I'm all ears.

I wasn't looking for it, but I came across this from the New York Times:

"ACCURACY This advertisement forced a series of heated attacks between the McCain and Obama campaigns beginning on Thursday, a debate that was left unresolved by the end of Friday. What is clear is that the McCain campaign has left the strong impression that Mr. Raines, a former chief executive of Fannie Mae who was ousted in 2004 amid an investigation over its accounting practices, is a close adviser to Mr. Obama, a suggestion that is totally unsupported by the facts. But the advertisement’s basic assertion is not a whole-cloth fabrication. The Post reported on July 16, in a Style-section article on Mr. Raines, that he had “taken calls from Barack Obama’s presidential campaign seeking his advice on mortgage and housing policy matters.” Others immediately repeated the information, including Politico.com.

Until the advertisement came out on Thursday evening, the Obama campaign did not question the claim. Since then, it has vigorously denied a relationship between Mr. Obama and Mr. Raines, with Bill Burton, a spokesman for Mr. Obama, calling the advertisement “another flat-out lie from a dishonorable campaign that is increasingly incapable of telling the truth,” and demanding a correction of the original article from The Post. The campaign also sent by e-mail a statement from Mr. Raines, saying: “I am not an advisor to Barack Obama, nor have I provided his campaign with advice on housing or economic matters.” On Friday, Mr. Burton said that Mr. Raines and Mr. Obama met once on the campaign trail, sometime in 2007 or 2008, and had not talked since then. He said Mr. Raines conducted an “introductory meeting” with a Senate aide to Mr. Obama, also sometime in the last two years."

Very interesting indeed; the first I heard of the Raines-Obama connection was Karl Rove harping on about it after the Palin-Hannity interview.  Very convenient for the republicans having a consciousless mouthpiece working as a FoxNews correspondent.

It most likely wasnt mccain who made the ads anyways. Its pretty much what the video says. Obamas words being distorted to make one thing seem like another.

For example,
Watch this clip.

He says "They dont pose a serious threat to us like the soviet union once posed a threat to us, yet we were willing to talk to them."

He didnt say they dont pose a threat period as in the mccain ad. He said they dont pose a threat that is as big as what the soviet union once did, yet we still talked to them.

Now the mccain ad states, he says and means that  iran is not a threat.
That is not what he said, if you look at it in the context he used it in.
Now he may have said pretty much those exact words "They dont pose a threat".
Its all about the context he used it in, its not just that phrase but what is surrounding it.
If you cut out that phrase alone it means something entirely different than the whole itself.

"They dont pose a serious threat to us like the soviet union posed a threat to us, yet we were willing to talk to them."

"They dont pose a threat."

See the difference?

This is just an example of one of the ways they are distorting the information.

And no im not pro obama, and im not pro mccain, I just watch some political videos from time to time, and im not the person to talk politics with. But I would like to have some information on the people who are running for the president (hence the reason i watch these vids sometimes). The only thing is seperating the bullshit from the good information, which is getting harder and harder each day. Also, il add in on another one of his speeches, he called iran a "grave threat".

Anyways with all that being said, Obama is willing to try to talk to iran (which in my opinion probably wouldn't work anyways, but its probably worth a shot atleast). Mccain from what I understand is only willing to talk to leaders of allied countries. I feel like ive gotten myself into some political arguement, that im not ready for.
