casing tray with lid, and I was wondering.........

If I had a a plastic tray with a lid, and I laid colonized rye grain down and cased would the casing layer provide enough humidity for fruit bodies? Has anyone tried this? I saw something a while ago on this board and I think someone did it but I couldn't find it. I was thinking with this method you can provide perfect and complete air exchange, because all you have to do is take of the lide for a couple seconds mist with a hose attahced to an ultrasonic humidifier and put the lid back on. Wadda ya think?

Yes, I find the casing layer to provide adequate humidity. I like to use foil baking pans that come with clear plastic lids. The lids maintain the perfect level of humidity for colonization.

Filter patch bags also work well, and you dont even have to open ?em. :grin:

Do most people fruit straight out of the bag or dump it out and throw a casing layer on it?
