You couldn't even get that in Florida or Georgia, muchless Maine.
You're looking for Panaeolus subbalteatus and maybe Liberty caps up there.

This never seizes to amaze me,
The whole garbage bag gimmick.
I think that (with all the new FAQ's and rules at these forms),
The garbage bag gimmick should be grounds for a locked topic.
Garbage bags are typically 50 gallon bags.
Now first of all, that would be close to 8,000 Cubensis mushrooms
Second of all, plastic bags ruin Shrooms,
Third, 80% of the mushrooms on the bottom of the bag would be destroyed
Fourth, The damn bag would rip and tear after about the first 10 gallons worth of shrooms in there,
Fifth, thats just rediculous.

Well now, Psilocybe azurescens grow in dense clusters and that mushroom can grow to be just as large but not as heavy as Cubensis.
Mjshroomer has posted a photograph of himself in the early days when at the University of Hawaii, with a black 50 gallon bag of dried Copelandian mushrooms, about 25 gallons of that was filled with the dried Copelandian mushrooms. Truly an amazing collection. If anyone has this picture handy i would love to see it posted again.
Again, garbage bags are plastic and they just are not suitable for collecting fresh mushrooms. The mushrooms will suffocate inside the bag and end up all yucky.
Mj has also posted images of large harvests of Psilocybe Cubensis and also Psilocybe caerulescens from the wilds of Mexico, and the mushrooms all layed out to be sun dried. Those collections were made by many more than just one person on a single day.
When you think about this being done by just one person you have to take into account that to pick 8,000 Cubensis, you will have to kneel down to pick the mushrooms at least 1,000 times and to do that in just a few hours or more seems a bit crazy.....
I have come down with the sniffles but it just began raining and should continue throughout the weekend.

yea to be honest it was three people pickin and im sure ill find more thn that this year i also had my whole intire couter space filled with liberty caps before

I think it more depends on the field... i know several fields over here that are literally mined with mushies... i mean all the cow pies have at least a mushroom, I have seen families of 11 decent sized cubensis on 1 single cow pie... so if you made an effort maybe you could end with at least a 50 gallon bag full to the top

nothing active grows in maine really. but here in texas i picked 5lbs of fresh cubes last year. that was from one field...couldve gotten enough to fill a garbage bag easily by starting early morning hitting several fields. if you ever do hunt BUMP THE CAPS or i will personally track you down and kill your in your urine saturated sleep. peace out.

Well that Bulk Psilocybe Cubensis photograph is quite obviously from cultivated specimens and not wild mushrooms collected from cow dung. I have personally been to smart shops in Amsterdam which have large bins of dried Psilocybe Cubensis mushrooms next to the cash register selling 5 dried grams for 25 guilders or twelve and a half american dollars.
And sean, flicking the caps of Psilocybe Cubensis and any other mushroom is basically a myth also. The mushroom caps naturally release their spores and flicking the caps only causes a miniscule amount of spores to fall compared to the amount that they had already released on their own.
