when and if you call a riding stable ask if they put cedar chips in their stalls so you dont waste your time going down there as its a fungicide and is very very common. 

I get my hpoo from tennessee stud and recently started getting it from a friend from work fo free.  well theres always a favor back so its more like a trade

Hey JSshroom,

I'm fairly certain it's suggested to not muck the stalls, but collect from the pastures.  That's where I get my h.poo.  From all I've read people suggest not using h.poo from stalls because it can have cedar like you mention and it's got a lot of pee in it.  H.poo from pastures has been rained upon (leaching out pee, etc) and dried by the sun over and over, supposed to be superior as it 'ages' that way from my understanding of what I've read.

I wonder how T.studd collects the h.poo?  I thought I read it was from a pasture?

yeah i have had a really hard time over the years till recently getting anyone to let me in their pastures.  People are weird around here I guess.  A lot of stables will make manure piles from their stalls as well so avoid that as well.

T stud feild collects it.  I have an otto bucket on t stud right now pinning very nicely

what's wrong with manure from the stalls?

as long as they don't use cedar as a bedding you shouldn't have any problem.

those piles are composted and generally better than the fresh apples. i just make sure to sift over chicken wire before i use it to get out any sticks or debris.

Also, stall manure probably needs the urine leached from it, but otherwise, it's just a pile o' crap. :shrug:

if its in a big pile, generally the rain does that for you. any leftover ammonia will evaporate quickly in 24-48 hours in the sun or in front of the fan.

most stable owners remove the manure from their stalls at pile it outside.
