Preserving with honey
    #886935 -

I was not sure which forum to put this in so I went for this one...

Just a question about preserving shrooms. I've read on this site and several others that you can preserve your shrooms by putting them in honey. Has anyone tried this, and what were your results like? Is it better to dry them first, because apparently if you put them in fresh then the water can cause rotting.

Thanks

Blue honey!

I dried mine 'cracker dry' and took all the little ones that I wouldn't want to give to someone to chew up and chopped them pretty coarsely, though next time chopping them much finer. Anyway, took a 1/2 pint clean jar and filled it to the top with them. Added honey to the top, there was a lot of air, so I let it sit for a day or two. Then I added more honey to fill it again.

Let that sit for a month, and spread on your favorite bagel or english muffin. I took about 1 teaspoon, probably less, and I was right at the border of socially acceptable behavior.

I would dry them first then add to honey, they rehydrate the slightest bit, but not so much that they rot.

Good luck
