Ya it's stupid. I don't find it terrifying but it's lame, I would assume afgter all the great art and psychdelics people claim to enjoy here, over the years most would drift farther and farther away from what I would IMHO believe to be garbage entertainment.

And isn't entertainment supposed to be entertaining.

Personally I would assume when it comes to movies most of us are into drama, comedy(which in "real life" is often the same thing  seriously )
maybe some independent films and foreign stuff.

I mean, everyone think of their favourite movie of all time..hmm
Was it a horror movie?

It's about taste and some people don't share the same taste with others amazingly enough.

To address the topic: I haven't been scared by a movie in a long time, but the Candyman used to terrify me as a child.

BTW, Keep in mind I didn't list mystery suspense action etc..I should have, that was foolish.

90% of all horror movies suck IMO.
Maybe I'm "wrong" and I will find some great ones.

I understand taste Redstorm. And that it's individual.

So tell me, what's a really enriching cerebral horror movie.

I'll watch it with an open mind if you name one.

I am a movie buff too, most genres - just so long it is a good movie....

I just thought of a "scary" movie that isn't really a horror movie....
Ever seen "War of the Roses"....?
"Fatal Attraction" was pretty creepy too...........

I like how all movies you watch have to be 'enriching'

Its just fuckin entertainment, and I like it, even cheesy ones, the cheesy stuff makes me laugh, and...gasp...entertains me.  8 movies to die for/masters of horror series are an example, cheesy as fuck, but classic.

peace

Ya I didn't say that at all.
But thanks for making me have to explain myself, that's great. :smirk:

When it comes to movies in general I said:
And isn't entertainment supposed to be entertaining.

And when I was specifically asking Redstorm his opinion, I asked him, if he knew of a "cerebral enriching" horror movie. A tall order, but I've seen one.

I still watch Ren & Stimpy, so don't you dare straw man me with something like you did. I never claimed everything I watch has to be amazing, moving, inspirational, or even cerebral.

But chances are, I wouldn't usually waste too much time on what IMO is garbage. So ya, there are plenty of movies I would turn off.

Apart from that, I haven't found myself truly scared by a movie in years.  Back in the day, I recall spending a terrified night awake in bed after watching Ernest Scared Stupid, though.

I admit that movie scared me when I was a kid.  Only movie to ever give me nightmares (that I'm aware of)... I can't remember how old I was when I saw it though

I like 28 days and weeks later but I wouldn't say they were particularly scary, I just really like the way they're done. (particularly 28 days later)

I think someone mentioned SilverBullet.
That DID fucking scare me. The night I watched it I was terrified. I couldn't get to sleep for quite awhile.

But Ernest?
Wow you're a total fucking pussy. Even now.

...and does it still scare you now?

For me, it is probably The Ring. I saw that when I was 13 and it terrified me. I couldn't even watch the commercials after seeing it - always had to change the channel. It was just so relentless...I literally felt a sense of relief when the mom found the girl's body because I thought there would be a happy ending - but nope, it did a complete 180.

I saw it again the other day and it was still kinda creepy, but I can't see how it scared me so much. Ignorance is bliss I guess, eh?

Man, I don't know how old I was, but that Ernest movie scared the living shit out of me.  First nightmare that I can remember as a young kid, too.

JAWS.

Because it is REAL and a situation an average person could find themselves in. The terror of not knowing what is underneath you and the way Spielberg shot that movie.

The fear is real. The situation is not. Peter Benchley once said that if he had known anything about sharks at the time, he never would've written the book Jaws.

What specifically was he referring to?
