I honestly hate scary movies. I'm more of a comedy and action kinda guy.

But the one that sticks out in my mind was Event Horizon (old movie). That movie just fucked with my head and gave me a whole bunch of nightmares. Haven't seen it in about 10 years though, so I can't tell ya if it's still scary now.

alright, so i'm not the only one lol.

the exorcist was definitely f'd up, but i think the 80's gore kind of spoiled it for me. if i'd seen it when it first came out i probably would have been scared.

They weren't animal hedges in the movie. Just a hedge maze.

ya there were dude. go watch it again

it shows them creeping up to the house in the snow.

Dude, you're thinking of the ABC miniseries version.

Stanley Kubrick's The Shining (to which people traditionally refer to) had neither the hedge animals or the wolf mask.

YEP that's it. i didn't realize they were different.

As different as night and day.

The ABC miniseries stayed truer to the plot of the book, but really lacked the creepy atmosphere.  Kubrick masterfully crafted a creepy atmosphere (and Nicholson played his given role well), but it totally failed to grasp the psychology and nuance of the book.

ohh yeah, just got that one from netflix a month ago. horror is my favorite genre now..:)

it was kind of scary. kind of relied on the shock value of all the gore to bring the scares on though. the story was interesting though.

I saw the movie "Alien" at the theater when I was a kid when it first came out....
Scared the fuck out of me....
That night I remember not falling asleep, didn't move a muscle fulling knowing that an alien was in -
my room and was going to kill me with it's Jack in the box teeth mechanism if I did move....
Of course, I miraculously survived the night, and I never had a movie "scare" me since....    :ohwell:

Some movies do still make me jump when something pops on the screen unexpectedly, sync'd up with a loud noise....  :whoa:

JAWS.

Because it is REAL and a situation an average person could find themselves in. The terror of not knowing what is underneath you and the way Spielberg shot that movie.

Forget about the Jaws sequels..JAWS the original will scare the HELL out of any reasonable human being. There is NO fear more primal than being eaten and swallowed whole by a vicious and unthinking creature.

Alien is a VERY close second. The idea of having an alien parasite WITHIN you. Ugh..

I think both ALIEN and JAWS changed my life in terms of what I became afraid of in real life. No other horror movie has done that so I rank them #1 and #2.

And EXORCIST would be #3.

The fear is real. The situation is not. Peter Benchley once said that if he had known anything about sharks at the time, he never would've written the book Jaws.

Requiem for a Dream always manages to scare me into staying away from drug addiction.

Apart from that, I haven't found myself truly scared by a movie in years.  Back in the day, I recall spending a terrified night awake in bed after watching Ernest Scared Stupid, though.

exorcism of emily rose- the part that talks about the witching hour.  says that demons come out between 3-4 a.m. as a mockery of jesus's resurrection, which was supposedly between 3-4 p.m.  i swear every night i wake up at 3:30 to piss and i freak the fuck out till i get a light turned on.

the grudge-  pretty weak movie, but that things fucked up head and weird sounds creeped me out big time.

The ring is the only movie that really 'scared' me.

Most just make me uneasy or nervious, maybe anxious in some scenes.

Event Horizon is awesome, i love that movie.

The Hole is really fucked up, not scary just fucked up.

Jeepers Creepers was weak, but it was filmed around here so it rings a lot of bells.

Requiem for a Dream always left a bad taste in my mouth.

But most of the time i get pissed at most horror or suspense movies, because the characters NEVER do what you think they should do.

is the pianist really a horror movie? never seen it.

The cover should've answered that for you.  hehe, no it's not a horror...but it might as well be, considering it was based off a true story.  It's a about a jewish pianist surviving the transformation and occupation of germany by the nazis throughout WW2.  Some of the things they show are really sad, and pure evil.
It's a drama, and a very recommended movie.  I think it won oscars.

Event Horizon was very fucking creepy for me too.

I'm not a horror movie guy either. I get stressed when I'm scared, and I don't enjoy the feeling. Never really understood the 'rush' everyone else got from it.  My stomach just knots up.

The Ring really fucked with me....but what REALLY got me (and noone else it seems) was watching 28 Days Later in theathers when it first came out...

It was the shrill noises that fucked me up bad.  The scene with the zombie smashing thru the basement window at night...that got me so bad I just wanted to leave the theather right then. I just didn't because I would've seemed like a total pussy to my gf.  She didn't find it scary at all, like everyone else.  But something about screaming running zombies doesn't sit well with me.  I could've made diamonds with my ass that night.

Fuck scary shit!

Ya it's stupid. I don't find it terrifying but it's lame, I would assume afgter all the great art and psychdelics people claim to enjoy here, over the years most would drift farther and farther away from what I would IMHO believe to be garbage entertainment.

And isn't entertainment supposed to be entertaining.

Personally I would assume when it comes to movies most of us are into drama, comedy(which in "real life" is often the same thing  seriously )
maybe some independent films and foreign stuff.

I mean, everyone think of their favourite movie of all time..hmm
Was it a horror movie?
