they are like a circle around the stem, its black, it looks like gills. It doesnt look like the veil i dont think. maybe hei was just confused =/

It its attatched to the stem then it is the veil.. It they are attatched to the cap then it is the Gills (underside of the cap).

Go to Mushroom pics and look at pics of shrooms with attatched veils and pics of gills... Its all in their..
