oops, tried to delete the pic and put a better one on, ended up deleting the post..LOL This is from the test my friend was using. It is the A-strain from Ryche made from just using a honeywater syringe and compost. No cakes were grown out first. She will try other strains to see if the result is similiar and keep you posted.

Its two in the morning......Do you know where your paperbag and flashlight are?

How much liquid mycelium and compost was used? About how long did it take to go from liquid inoculation to fruit? Would you say it is superior to syringe>rye>compost?

Well they look great. I have read that liquid inoculation is a lot faster than syringes. Any other details about your tech would be awesome.

Eddie, My friend used the contents of one syringe full of mycelia/honeywater. She estimates that the amount of compost used was about 3 cups. It took about 10 days to fully colonize the compost. And another week before the pinns came. One thing she did that was very unique was to take a clear bag and put about two cups+- of perlite(damp) in it. Then put the tray on top of the perlite in the bag. And filled it up with air. Adding pressure to the air by squeezing the bag some and tieing off. ( this is hypothetical but way back in time when the earth had an atmosphere of water vapor it caused the air pressure to become dense with O2 causeing everything to grow massive) so she tried to duplicate this somewhat. Whether it helped or not this is only the first time she has tried this. But the mushrooms fruited and were very good size. Each day the bag was opened and reinflated with more air. The humidity was very good at 90 % and the temps ranged from 60/90 degrees. The bag was put into sunlight for about an hour each day.

I should post this picture of pinns growing in this mixture, so everone can see how it looks. The pinns are a day old, with one "baby-mature" in the background that was connected to the big one my friend pulled out yesturday.

"Direct to compost" is how most of the commercial mushrooms are grown, just a matter of getting the right mix. If those are only "day old" pins...its obviously working like a charm.

Extra O2 can't hurt. Herb cultivators shell out big bux for CO2 generators for their grow rooms as the increased levels help boost growth/yield. More O2 for mushies could do something similar. Instead of wetting the perlite with water, try use peroxide instead. It will give off a reasonable amount of O2 as it decomposes, leaving only water behind.

Hi,
so, let me see if I understand; You took some compost, like 3 cups, right? Then you sterilized it, or pasturized it? then you ( or your friend rather) innoculated this compost with a full 10 cc syringe of mycilium/honey water, correct? then set it in a bag of damp perlite to colonize the compost and eventually fruit. Is that about right? What kind of container did your friend set the compost in, and did she shake it up as it colonized, or just let it grow on it's own as in a MMGG jar type tek? then I suppose it was fanned, and re-inflated like every day, but other than that you did not do much else? sounds interesting. thanks for the information, Rxwoman.

Oh, I forgot to ask, what kind of compost did your friend use? Was it something she made herself, or something she purchased? what was it made of? hay, or straw compost, dung based, dung and straw, or was it the stuff you posted the recipe for awhile back? thanks again, Rxwoman.

the comment on the lips were not meant to be sexual or demeaning in any way,
any hoo, how long does it take for the compost to colonize?

The compost was from the recipie she posted a while back. My friend placed the compost and honeywater in its growing box and that was it. No shaking. Just left it alone and let it do its own thing. On a side note. My friend has found with properly cooked compost, the need for pasturizing is really not nessesary.

Dont worry LiquidGaia, I took your other post as a nice compliment, thankyou. As for the compost colonizing, That varies alot with many other variables. Air exchange, moisture content, type of mushroom used, and temp.

Bluehoney what was the process used to make the honeywater? If you are going to market it and don't want to post it I understand. That is your perogative. One last thing out of that 3 cups what do you think your first flush yeild was?

My friend took spores and squirted them in the honey/water mix. After about a week, she squirted some H2O2 into the jar. Once the jar had sufficient growth she shook it up real hard and filled up a spore syringe with it. Then she squirted it into the compost, put in a bag with damp perlite, and thats about it. Not sure of the marketing comment as my friend has no intentions of selling anything other than her compost which the recipie for is posted here in the archives. The process for the honeywater is just a honey water tek. My friend trys to keep no secrets when it comes to letting everyone in on what works for her. So if something doesnt look clear in one my post's I write about her in, then drop me a PM and I will get it right to her.:) As for the yield, it ended up being five full size A strain , with one short mature one. Not sure of the weight because they were injested before drying or weighing.
