Afraid of shaking grain jars...

This always makes me nervious. It is good to shake rye jars right? but when is the right time, and how hard does one shake...

Don't be afraid.  :wink:

While the Myc doesnt like being shaken & takes a day or 2 to heal.

Your serving a higher purpose. To spead it. The shake is worthwhile to increase colonization time by many multiples.

The Raccoon shakes once @ around 10 - 15%. That does it for him. With G2G transfers -- he gets fully colonized quarts in a dozen days  :grin:.

Just think. This is going to hurt :crazy:, but it's for your own good, as you shake.

If it still bothers you after shaking? Give then a little hug & kiss. They will forgive you.  :grin:

There are people who use old tires for this task . They simply bang the jar against the old tire to break up and loosen the matter .

I instruct my elves to shake it when it is about 1/3 done. You can shake the shit out of it, get all the clumps broken up and spread throughout the jar. But I suggest only shaking it a couple times. All that breaking of mycelial threads, I find they don't recover and grow as well after too many shakings.

Also, if you notice any wet spots, contamination will grow in those areas and shaking will spread it around. So watch for wet spots guys! :wink:

Anyone else notice that?
