and this is why you fail

the problem with taking that approach is that the odds are overwhelmingly against you. You should identify what you want to find, figure out where and when they grow, then go where they are likely to be and look down. Your luck may be shitty, but the odds are skewed much more in your favor with this method.

Not trying to be a dick, just pointing out what most inexperienced hunters don't find to be obvious.

I do think you should try to figure out what other mushrooms are though. There's no such thing as useless knowledge.
