Mushroom ID :)
    #1793158 - 08/08/03 07:33 PM (14 years, 17 days ago)

Hey guys, advance thanks for helping a noob with an id

These mushrooms were found in Northern Alabama in a wooded area, with elevation of about 750 ft (best guess, error margin about +/- 400 ft).  They were growing in dirt (some were in pinestraw with dirt base).  I'll take some spore prints overnight if you guys can't come up with an id from the shitty pictures.  Thanks

Here are the tops

And here are the gills

i'll have to refer you to the forum rules and the thread entitled "read this before posting an ID request".

when you have read those you will need to post a description of the mushroom in the format layed out in the above mentioned thread to have much of a chance at an identification.

Here's a few things we'd like to know before committing to an ID.

Are the gills like regular mushroom gills, or are they relatively blunt and ridgelike?

What do they smell like?

Cut one in half vertically and scrape the inside of one half with your knife edge to bruise it. Let us know what it looks like before and after. Color changes can take up to an hour after bruising.

How big are they? I'm guessing that's a paper towel in the photos, but it could be a napkin or something.

What kind of trees were nearby? If you aren't good at identifying trees, let us know if they were pines or not.

Let us know.

Happy mushrooming!
