lay-atheists are just as laughable as the lay-religious. personally I hold genuine spiritualists in higher regard than atheistic intelligentsia, but that was different a few years ago.

I don't know...at the very least, a stupid atheist's beliefs don't get in the way of other people's lives.  The atheist might, but his beliefs don't.  The same can't be said about stupid religious people.  Although I would agree, some atheists are really annoying.

good point. although, just to play devil's advocate, and only speaking from my experience, i have known some very open minded and approachable religious folk; at least openly they are chill, who knows what battles rage in their heads in accordance with their beliefs.

but yah, i def. agree with you as a generalization.

I find it interesting that the debate between atheism and theism has been so thoroughly entrenched into the philosophy that no resolution is possible.  If one were to compare the believers in the Flat-Earth theory to the believers in the Round-Earth theory, it would be untenable to say that dogmatism on either side can't be tolerated.  It's clear that one theory is right, and the other theory is wrong--the theory that has been shown to stand up to the evidence gives perfect reason for the Round-Earthers to be dogmatic: simply because it is the correct idea.

It's clear that there either is a God or there isn't a God.  One of these answers has to be right.  Those on the correct side have perfect reason to be dogmatic.

Sure, but you still would have to have an answer to the question: "Does God exist?" (I'm referring solely to the usual monotheistic God for an example here.)

If you're spiritual, or something else besides religious or atheist, you would answer No to that question, as your concept of god does not match the monotheistic one.  If instead you believe in the monotheistic God, you would answer Yes.  You must hold an opinion either way.

Atheists these days are fucking obnoxious.  I'm hesitant to describe myself as one simply because of this fact.  It's mostly teenage kids for whom knowing that God isn't real is the first thing they've ever been right about in their entire lives.
