Uhoh! Maybe overcooked my poo!

Well, now I've done it!

I was pasturizing some horse poo/straw (ala Roadkill) and I fell asleep! I awoke to the wonderful smell of hot poo water and went to the stove to see what was going on AFTER 5 HOURS!!

The meat thermometer was pinned at 195 degrees and the water was at a slow boil. ?It's hanging and drip-drying as per usual, but what can I expect? Should I scrap it? Should I risk the use of my spawn on this batch?

Has anyone else overcooked their poo?

The only thing I`d really be worried about is the time.
195 will not kill too many beneficial bacteria but 195 for 5 hours might just do it.
But you really have nothing to lose unless ofcourse you are using a special strain that only you have?
Worth a try.
The thing is though, I do know of people that have sterilised their poo and still it worked.
So go for it.

Doesn't over pasturization promote bacteria. Once the temp goes up that high it's not pasturizing, it 's sterlizing. If I were in your postion I would just re-do it.

IMHO -- You could shelve that batch in a plastic bag for a short while & carefully pasturize a smaller amount of poo. Then mix the 2  togather & let it incubate a while. That should reintro a majority of benificial good guys back in the whole batch?

Just a thought.

6T and everyone, thanks for the replies. I think 6T's suggestion is the best one, but unfortunately, I have no more dried poo... Not only that, but this batch is a special mixture of 70% horse poo, 10% straw and 20% dried Dung Brothers compost.

Only choices I have are: Scrap it, or go for it. I'm going for it! I have plenty of spawn, so I'm doing three 9x13 trays. Thai KS (grated 1 pint PF) Cambodian (12 oz rye berries) and B+ (grated 1 pint PF)

I'll keep you guys updated on whatever happens.
