A couple PF-Tek ?s

I'm following the PF-Tek method, and there's a couple things still unclear to me:

1. The 1/2 pint jar lids should be put on rubber side up (backwards). Can anyone verify/explain why this is?

2. What is your experience with lid tightness while in the pressure cooker - tight or loose?

3. I'm poking holes in the lids to innoculate, and taping them up while in the pressure cooker - how long after innoculation should the tape stay on?

4. Once in the terrarium, should the lights be on 24hrs/day, or regular sunlight hours?

That should get me on my way - thanks for any input!

1. So the lids don't seal. It would be a bitch to remove otherwise.
2. I like tight.
3. Regular sunlight hours is fine.
