Peyote q's

Was just wondering if it would be worth it to consume a 4 year old peyote button which is about 4cm diameter. Would it be or would it make more sense to let it grow longer? It's an indoor grown specimen.
Also, I always see people using small rocks when potting cacti, particularly with peyote. I guess that's just the top layer above the soil. But where would you get these rocks? Can you get them in bulk at a plant nursery or would one collect them themself?
Thank you!

i collect my own rocks/gravel from the garden beds at work (really rocky here)
don't buy them, that's just like throwing money into the toilet

You need a fair bit of peyote to feel any effects, if you want to try mescaline buy a ft of pedro - if you want to trip more like peyote then buy a ft of bridgesii Peyote is bit of a silly plant to grow if you just want to get high lol.
Garden centres have lots of rocks and chip, im going to try find some limestone chip soon. Limestone is a great natural way to keep pests at bay, especially snails and slugs. I used to work in quarries, the limestone ones always amazed me at how many dead snails and shells were on the ground

Don't eat it. Jesus Christ man. Make some mescaline citrate with Pedro or PT. Peyote is just to precious. Do you realise how many ppl are trying to figure out how to just getting one button? I wouldn't dare eat mine. Anyways.....mescaline citrate or hcl if your comfortable with it. Just check it out.

Most of the shells were completely fine, they just lacked the inhabitants - lol it looked like a bunch of frenchies had just finished breakfast
I think that limestone, esp the dust has a very similar affect as DE, but not quite as 'powerful' - it simply sucks the juice outa them

Yeah, I don't mean to come off like I'm just all about eating them and not growing them too. I do, in fact, wish to start a peyote garden and I realize that it's a very long endeavor time-wise. But a friend and I were also curious as to the specific effects of the loph. So we bought 3 and, in the event that one of these was enough to produce decent effects, I would have kept 1 of them to grow.
Since they aren't large enough to eat I'll be planting all of them. I also have some seeds which I'll be starting soon. So while I'll undoubtedly be trying peyote someday, it's certainly not all that I'm about and I understand the need to respect and protect it.
I had read somewhere that it takes a good 20 years for peyote to reach maturity but that you could get them to the same point in about 5 years when grown indoors, under the right conditions. So that's why I asked. But it's pretty obvious from looking at mine that they're nowhere near fully mature.

depends on that persons definition of maturity though... in my book 5 year maturity = flowering maturity, nothing to do with consumption

20cm across.....lmfao. If ya find one like that, I want to see some pics.
TDO- If you are really wanting to eat some, 3 may not do the trick. I would suggest getting some caespitosa, doing a few grafts and degrafts, then eatting a nice little meal. In the meantime, munch on some pedro or do an extraction. Its easy.

lulz my random 1cm = 1 year method only works until they reach a certain size, then they begin to put their energy into growing pups. i've seen a few that got to 8 or 9cm without having any pups but IME on average they begin to pup at 6 or 7cm in diameter... of course there are always exceptions to the rule.

My friend used to cut his eyes off and graft them to San Pedro. After a 6 months to a year, they were plenty big enough to replant as mommas. Also they did best for my friend when using a 400 watt hps bulb 3-4 feet away. My friend tried a 1000 watt bulb, and they turned red with sunburn.
If using the 400 hps at proper range, no shading seemed necessary.
But it is always good to transplant in nature, later. Stresses of the seasons made them way more potent than indoor stuff. Seemed like for my friend, after 3-4 years there was enough to go around, but it wouldn't have been like that without the grafting to faster growing cactus.
My friend would consume large buttons after 2 years of outdoor living. But would transfer baseball sized buttons after just a few years on the San Pedro.
I this helps somebody......
Peace....
