Unfortunately, many people are dependent on gas.  People won't stop buying until it gets too expensive to do so, or there are cheap, convenient alternatives.

not all of us can ride a bike to work. not all of us can work without expending gas. not all of us can get home without using gas. that fucking computer you're typing your posts on was delivered in a vehicle driven on a tank of gasoline or diesel.

Then buy gas from people that aren't exxon at the least.

I fucking hate exxon. They ruined the railroad systems in the US when it was starting, and now thanks to them we depend on trucks more than trains (huge hulking transportation machines!!!) to transport our shit. And we depend on our own transport to get us places.

He didn't say all gas. He said 'this corporation'. Fuck Exxon.

funny story about exxon

only gas station within 10 min of my house was an exxon for years, and i never went once because of how massively expensive it was compared to other places.

nobody else did either apparantly, because it got replaced by a sunoco about 2 weeks ago.

Every time i get gas now, or drive by, theres a 4 car wait for gas at that place, when it was a ghost town before.

people whine about wall mart and other companys being unfair, but capitalism works, consumers do care, and they will stop buying from places, and companys will be hurt. 

just takes a little time to catch up

I didn't buy Exxon gas because of the Valdez incident. And they hardly paid enough money to clean it up.

I still own a car, I still buy gas, at $1.35/L it's still worth it to me.  Am I bad?

You make a good point, but I don't think there is a "magic number".

There's a line between FAIR profit and UNFAIR profit. This is an obvious situation of UNFAIR profiteering.

They are the biggest company in the country, they should have the biggest profit.

No, not at all.  Their profit margin is not very high compared to other companies, its about 10%.  Many companies have a profit margin much higher than that.

Morals don't enter into the obscenity of it. I personally find it disgusting that they have made record profits, after massive cost increases to their consumers. During a very economically unstable time (prices increase around the boards because of this increase).

A company should not be breaking profit records for a product while at the same time explaining how the price increases are completely necessary.

I dont support boycotting them, and feel their profit margin is acceptable.  Only about $0.80 per gallon you buy goes to their profit.  Even if they made no money at all and fucked over all of their share holders, your gas would only be $0.80 cheaper.
