Yeah, I gotta admit I liked the Fountain a lot too...it choked me up at a lot of different moments, and I agree with whoever said that the basic concept is about coping with death...at least that is the part of the film that struck me.

This was a great take on the movie.

One of the major things I took away from this complex movie is a very simple cliche.  Take advantage of the now, the time you have with your loved ones as well as yourself.  It will all be gone one day, and instead of fearing that moment, embrace it and enjoy each and every moment in the moment as it comes.  I'm sure it's a gratifying way to live.  Without fearing death.  I wish I had the ability to do that right now.  It's hard not to look to the future when the present starts to get rough, and then stress out because the future is so unclear to us; this could all be taken from us at any moment.  We have no control over it.  So what's the point in worrying about it?  That's when I need to remind myself, I have to stop and take a look at what is good in my life, right here, right now and live today as if its all I ever dreamed and imagined.

I am resurrecting this post just to say that I think this is one of the most beautiful movies I have ever seen! I can watch it over and over. The music, visuals and style are truly moving, for me anyway.

The special features are also worth a look, especially the one where he takes a spore print!

While i couldn't agree more, I dont think it justifies bumping a nearly year-old thread.

People bump threads for dumber reasons than this.  Great comment.

My take:

We spend all of our time worrying about death and trying to find ways to delay it, refusing to realize that without death, there would be no life.  Once we accept this, we realize that we live on forever through the rebirth of nature and our progeny.
