Mouse-over Preview Feature: Scrolling

Scrolling through a mouse-over doesn't really work that well, because the scrolling goes too fast for that little box. Perhaps the native scroll bar could be replaced with some kind of custom, javascript, or whatever, scroll bar that went slower (i.e. pixel-by-pixel.)

I don't really see a problem with the scroll speed; certainly not to the extent that I'd re-invent the scrollbar to overcome it. Anyway, deviating from the OS implementation of a fundamental widget like a scrollbar would result in poor usability. You can increase the size of the pop-up preview from within your display preferences, maybe that will make scrolling easier and more accurate.

Ah, ok. I'll try increasing the size of the box.

I'm surprised a scroll bar widget would result in poor usability. I imagined it would be along the same lines as that Highslide feature.

Yeah I mean I see what you're saying, the feature you're asking for isn't totally unprecedented. But it all comes down to the implementation, and I think it would be difficult to do right. In the end it would take a lot of effort and the results would be unsatisfactory. But increasing the size of the preview should have helped, right?

Actually, the nature of it is that the native scrolling is in such a way, and the text is so small, that each time you scroll, it just jumps down; and I find that to be hard on my eyes. It's like my eyes have to "catch" the text each time I scroll.

It's not a big deal. Plenty of threads are short, and don't need to be scrolled through; and a person doesn't even have this nice feature on most other forums. Also, you can scroll by holding the scroll bar. That gives you complete control.

i don't really think it's that annoying. in fact, i've never had a problem with the speed of the scroll and i use the preview a lot. what can be annoying is when you scroll too much and you reach the end of the preview window so then the whole page starts scrolling and the preview window closes cuz the mouse is no longer over it. but it's really not that big of a deal.
