too late to start poppies?

never grown these, wanted to just do it in a small flower thing from home depot.


I live in Colorado, it is unusually hot. I think they would grow, but would they grow fast enough? Anyone know if I can even get the seeds now?


I do all kinds of legitimate gardening btw

If it is really hot there then your seedlings will most likely die from dehydration. Poppies seedlings are extremely prone to this. Its is best to sow poppies in mid to late winter.

What if i keep them hydrated?

Colorado is dry but I can always add water.

Nah, you'd have to water them every couple of hours. You best bet is to start them inside until they get about 4-5 inches tall and then move them outside.

I kept my seedlings in a humidity dome until they had got their 2nd set and within 24 hrs of me taking the top off (in winter, winters can get really hot here) i had lost 1/2 of the seedlings to dehydration. If you have a humidity dome or can improvise, plus are willing to attend to them to make sure they dont dampen off (rot) then its do-able - but it would be alot of work.
