Poppies?

Recently there were some oriental poppies growing in my yard, with quite large seed pods, just for laughs i sliced down the seed pods and to my suprise the famous yellow/orange latex goo came out. My question is, do all the poppies which produce this orange latex contain opium, or is it JUST the "opium poppy"? Also, when one dries this liquid and comes out with that black semi-rubbery stuff, do you smoke or eat or can you do both? thanks in advance!

tastes like nothing else you've ever tasted....absolute horror. The stuff that oozes out is opium, congrats. Watch out for cops...they sometimes will come by and dig up the whole crop. Pretend you have no idea what those are.
Anyway, go to www.poppies.org. it's like the shroomery, but for poppies.

Well I could not find my scrapping image so here is another. The latex is usually a whitish off-white to reddish brown
And here is a bin of raw opium in India, each bin contains 77 kilos of raw opium. India has over 350,000 liscensed farmers who legally grow opium. 75% of all the India grown opium is sold to US pharmaceutical companies for the manufacture of morphine to be used in case of nuclear was. here is the bin of O. In fact most countries governments supports their own grown supply of O.
A field I photographed in Northern Thailand
A Lisu village girl tending the village crop near Fang, Thailand
Another poppy field
And an elderly Seattle Grandma's front Garden in the U district. These have appeared in her garden every year for the past 5 years. Usually fruiting aroound the midlle of September through the first three weeks of October.
I found them one day when I got off the bus one stopped passed where I use to live in 1998. I took pictures each year and these were the nicest.
And as I previously mentioned to you in another similar post you made,
poppy seeds can be purchased from any Bar and Restaurant Supply Company in most major cities throughout the world. They are not illegal and are callled Dutch blue. They are Papaver somniferum.
And have a shroomy day, mj
I will not repost any of these images again and learn to use the search i engines for such information

And I should also remind you that I recently posted here some of the French popiies which grow wild along country roads in France which also contain morphine and codeine and are a differespecies than the ones I show above.

You can look for that host somewhere here in the last month or so.

Oriental poppies don't have opiates in them and I believe ingesting much of their pod juice can be unhealthy.

I have a book published on Opium Poppy Cultivation. It is posted at Erowid and obviously you did not search far enough. It is now a little late to be planting them as it is getting colder mj Opium Poppy Cultivation by O. http://www.erowid.org/plants/poppy/opium_poppy_cultivation/ mj

Mate just sprinkle the seeds on some soil and youll be fine. I always get 100% germination. Make sure you seperate them all before they come outt of the lettuce stage and your sorted.

Two ideas:
1) Direct to soil (meaning final medium) 2) Direct to bed (ala "Starter"); then upon reaching ~12" plant to field in clumps.
Some use a sort of "cold shocking" , by placing them in the refrigerator for a period then (around two weeks) then sow them.
Hope this helps some

Impressive pics, certainly different to how it's done in Tasmania Australia where modern ag has replaced the traditional raw opium collection.

Psilocybeingzz:
LMAO! You read those techniques from the Indian Ag Papers I posted on my forums?
Bottom line, one could look long and hard but the Tasmaniam Poppy industry is king. If one searches they can find info on their CPS extraction methods, but...
There is another strain, known as Safir that is said to produce very nice flowers, but I've never seen seeds.

No, Bud:
I completely believe you, I just cracked up on the way you worded it, about the scans. The question as to articles on my site was just a heads up, as I know your are an avid truth seeker when it comes that wonderful "plant of joy".
Take care

It is the Febuary 1985 Issue Vol. 167, No. 2 National Geographic...UNBELIEVABLE ARTICLE AND PICS!!
Here is the remarkable thing: I commented on this thread. I live in a VERY small town with a tiny library. Wife and I dropped by there today and in the "lobby" (about 16 square ft.) there were a few mags in a rack and some old books on a shelf, for sale (books= .25; mags= .10) there were maybe 5 National Geographics in the bunch. Can you believe that exact issue was there? Seems strange, as I just glanced at it in passing, I had no clue of actual date nor was I even thinking of the article and pics. Strange
