The difference between them is rednecks and people from Jersey are far more intelligible than anyone who speaks ebonics.  Mainly, for rednecks and Jersey-ites, its just their accents.
Ebonics-speakers make up bullshit words, give existing words ridiculous meanings, garble their words to sounds barely discernible from a grunt, and use grammar that would make an english major weep.

Don't know if it really means much, but is definitely tied to rap music.  My home was burglarized about 4 weeks ago now.  They took all the regular stuff, tv, stereo equipment, game systems, games, dvd's, jewelry.  They also stole SOME of my cd's, I have a little over 100, and they actually went through them and stole my entire rap section, 10-12 cd's, and that is all they touched...probably doesn't play into race, but it does prove the people that robbed me enjoy rap music.
