A few pics from hunting...

Here?s a few more pics from about. Nothing terribly unusual, but there are some good threads with photos here to inspire me.
These are Geastrum (unknown species as yet).

And here?s a pic of some spores from it (no stain). The spores average 6.3 microns.

This is a common mushroom, but what the heck - Coprinus comatus.

These are common here, but easy to overlook - Crucibulum laeve.

Nice pics man. I love the pics of the spores. I wish I had a nice high power microscope to look at spores. I've never really had a chance to use a microscope other than in 2 or 3 labs in Biology. How do you measure the spores?

I calibrated the microscope with a stage micrometer. Then, I took photos of the scale in the microscope and calibrated the size of the pixels with the calibrated scale. The pics I'm posting are reduced in size. In the full size ones (at 1000x), it worked out to each pixel being 40 nanometers. It still blows my mind that a wavelength of violet light is about 10 pixels long, and red light is about 20 pixels. Anyway, then you just need to measure the distance from one point to another in pixels and convert.

I love the birds nest mushrooms. They, along with other related fungi, are some of the coolest living things on earth. I found earth stars, birds nests, and some Lepiota Americanas all in the same patch. Cool finds man

Great! It would be really fun if more people with microscopes posted their pictures!

Excellent photos ToxicMan...The microscopic spore pic is wild! I enjoy hunting in the wild and being able to come across something out of the ordinary is especially thrilling...
