I'm confused about this Pan caster species...
It is not yet recognized as its own species?
It is hallucinogenic?
How can it be easily distinguished from other similar species like Pan foes?
Any answers would be appreciated. Peace,
RebelSteve

If they're not casters, I bet they could be Panaeolus olivaceus or Pan. fimicola. I'm hoping they're a new species, so GG can have a 'shroom named after him.

i have found an abundance of these specimens that match the photos exactly the last 2 days
they are VERY similar to P. foenisecii macroscopically. some of the specimens i thought were foens mixed in the "Pan. caster" patches, until i took them home and got a black spore print for ALL of them. they also tend to be more of a P. campanulatus shade in that they are kind of grayish/yellow especially after rains etc. they can also have the girdled look of foens and subbs just more faded. basically they are like foens but with black spore prints and more grayish colored cap. when they are very mature they also tend to be more dark black than dark brown like foens, but the cap cracks in the same way. in old age they also blacker gills. they have brown gills when young however.
im sure GG can expand more on these mushrooms because hes been around them longer and studied them more im sure. so GG maybe you could give as a little know-how.

Am i mistaken but i thought all panaeolous species have black sporeprints. Which would mean these casters along with subbs and foens have black sporeprints. So i dont see how you where distinguishing them by the print.

Panaeolina foenisecii has a dark brown sporeprint, not a black one.

Yes that is a Florida Highway Patrolers vehicle and driveway
His dog would always bark at us when we would photo the shrooms fruiting from his yard, -i remember making a few small collections from it but no longer anymore do we go there.
The pan casters have what seems a very delicate mycelial network
And the shrooms have the most pleasantly shroom smell you could imagine. -An extremely friendly smelling and tasting shroom it is.
Also, you can sometimes almost smell the mycelium in the air and in the lawns while hunting them.
