woah, that's pretty nuts. i wonder if their is any... like influence linguistically on their drumming skills, like if the anguage andthe accents and what not have any afect on their singing and drumming ability.

tht little kid is priceless. and i'm with ya Circuarvortext on the learning how to drum by the next gathering. i'd like to contribute as well. maybe i'll figure out how to do some drum dancing thing so i can do both at the same TIME!

I love collecting unique instruments from around the world.  My first was a really nice didgeredoo. I haggled the price from 300 to 130:grin: I bought it from a little instrument store in NYC... You should have seen the looks I got carrying a huge ass piece of wood around the city!!! It sounded cool using it in the subway. My last buy was a random snare drum for 10 bucks. Also found a perfectly working accordion someone put out for trash! I always wanted a sitar and a tabla.

Kimbo! I"VE TOTALY MET THAT GUY! i took pictures of him too! my friend kelsey and i were talking to him. He was born in  like africa i think into a tribe and was like exiled or something cause he was born a hermaphrodite. He's really interesting and actually popped into my life at a time when i was realizing the spiritual qualities of dancing. I remember him telling me that he loves spinning around in cirlces when he was dancing cause all the colors that are spinning past his eyesight just turn into whatever he wants them to be. that same week i watched a movie where i had for the first time heard of whirling dervishes, and i realized that dancing is just as if not more powerful than prayer. or that it's a form of prayer rather.

I've seen that guy before at a festival in NY! He's fucking awesome! That guy can jam the fuck out like nothing else.

Ani.. yeah I'm fairly sure that the Indian dialect and their linguistics had a lot to do with the influence of their music and why they designed tablas (and sitars) the way they are. I remember reading an article about it once upon a time, very interesting stuff.. I'll see if I can dig it up somewhere.
