I need some constructive.. life advice(?)

So, I'm 20 and currently living with the parents. I'm hoping to be gone by the upcoming Winter season, as I absolutely hate snow.

I need some advice on life!

I plan on moving to California for college, but really don't know what the hell to expect. The basic gist of my plan is to go down there with a couple grand, some ambition and just hope for the best.

I hear CA is pretty expensive, so for college, I'm just going to take out student loans to pay for expenses and just take care of those after I graduate.

But being that California is so expensive, would it be possible to pay for rent, say, $300-500 a month, car insurance, gas, etc on a minimum-wage paying job? Like, what are the odds that I'll actually be able to make ends meet? Anyone have any advice or suggestions that might be able to help? I'm in quite a dilemma with this.

Get some life experience before you start college. It'll make it harder for the professors to brainwash you.

Go to Santa Cruz, live on the beach, and go to UCSC.

And just for the record, I'm not really one to conform to others beliefs.

I just want to go to college and then leave.

Fuck Hollywood and all of the mindless fevered egos that come with it.

Have you established a good credit history, and have a solid work history? If not, good luck with that student loan.

Trying to make it on minimum wage while going to school full time is going to wreck your health. Whatever you do, best of luck.

That is what you should expect- California is beautiful!!! As for the job advice I would go there and work for a year because when you become a resident the amount you pay for school is like 20 to 30 dollars a credit hour and depending on your income you might get a check back from the state! Also, if I were you I would expect to pay 600 to 800 in rent!

Oh and don't take out student loans to pay your bills the interest is to high for that!

If you can't afford it live in another sunny state!

Ok Going to go the other way with this one. If you really want to move there you should do it. even if you have to struggle a bit for the first few months it will be worth it in the end because you did what YOU wanted to do.

My advice would be to save a bit more cash than your planning, probably1/3 more, move there and work full time for 3 months to get yourself on top and comfortable. from there you can devise how you would like to go about study.

ie; take out loan, cut some shifts and replace with study etc.

It will be a ton Easier when you are actually there and doing it rather that speculating about,  trust me.

go to somewhere cheap living in cali, like northern california cheap rent, good pot, nice schools. you get the best of all worlds. but dont live in the bay if you want cheap rent, never will find it there. but alot of other places are cheap.

There is no way you will survive in southern, central, or the majority of the nortern parts of cali on minimum wage.  Not unless you know someone to live with who will give you cheap ass rent.

Far north in cali where the towns are small and the forest is thick its way cheaper, but the lack of jobs also abounds, and your choices in college's drop drastically also. 

I highly suggest you plan and set EVERYTHING up before you leave.
