Peruvian Candelabra
    #850722 - 08/29/02 09:51 AM (15 years, 28 days ago)

I am planning on taking some peruvian torch today and I called up the home depot and talked to the guy who said that he had a peruvian torch. I went there and saw that the name of the cactus was a Peruvian Candelabra (cereus peruvianus.) I am thinking that this is the same thing. Am I correct?

Nope. Different species altogether. Cereus cacti are not active.

They are active, as shown below, but I think it is in very small quantities, not of much use, so its easier to say they are not active.

In reply to:

Cereus peruvianus - Peruvian apple
(Cactaceae) A columnar cactus originally collected in Peru. Alkaloids found in this species are Hordenine and Tyramine.

SP is correct, none of the Cerus genus are active. You're looking for TRICHOCerus =\

Bummer, d00d.

That cactus is not "active" per-say. You want a Trichocereus Peruvianus.

Yes the Cereus Peruvianus, contains alkaloids, but not the ones you're probably looking for, (i.e. Mescaline).

yes he's serious....cereus peruvianus have very little alkaloids makeup and no mescaline at all...
you need a trichocereus, wich can be pachanoi, bridgensii or peruvianus. This last one is more potent than the previous 2...

You do not want to consume Cereus peruvianus. It will not make you trip, and would be a pretty physically unpleasant experience.

hehe actually i bought a cereus by accident and chopped off a good 8-10" cutting and had one of my adventurous friends eat it. after getting the nasty florecent green snot goo down, nothing happened. i kept the cactus and it should be blooming right now but its at my house! i wish i could see it.
