Make sure you pre-sterilize the compost water - boil it before using to mix into your substrate - it isn't the bacteria that the fungus enjoys - obviously - its the minerals that come with the dead bacteria. Simply pre-boil that water - strain a couple of times if necessary - then use to make your substrate with.

Well, when I mixed my substrate I used three different types of water, just to see what would happen. I used water coming out of a spring in a park down the street, I used bottled water (like you mentioned), and I used tap water (by accident, wasn't thinking on the first two jars, just turned on the facet without thinking). They are all colonizing very well, there are some that are going faster than others, but I haven't compared notes yet to see which water was doing best. I'm going to do that tomorrow, I'll keep you posted.
