i myself supplied my neighbor's cat with sterilized jars of Pf style cakes with aspen wood shavings used instead of verm. this is because I don't appriciate verm with my shrooms, but don't seem to notice wood bits if any. the yield reported by the cat was similar to verm, i would have expected that eventually the shrooms would begin to utilize the wood, but it seems that the cubs do not provide adequate antibiotic control of strictly wood-decomposing contams, particularly dry-rot fungus, which took over after three flushes.

i have seen others here post of using things like coconut fibers, more or less in the same function in tray culture.

i am soon to experiment with old cotton rags, and good mews kitty litter, (paper fibers) just for fun, and will post in about a month when the experiments are completed by my neighbor's cat. hopefully the cat will not get confused about the kitty litter in the jars! !
