perlite in the subtrate itself?

was wondering has any every tried puttin lil amounts of perlite in there jars of brf and verm, or even replacing the verm with perlite, figureing perlite keeps more moisture then verm think it would make the cake last a lil longer. do you guys think i should try it and post a report or has some on tried this

I've heard of people doing this. Also, I think vermiculite holds much more water than perlite does, perlite just wicks moisture off, thus creating a higher RH. But by all means, experiment and see if it works well for you! :laugh:

Verm does infact have a higher water absorbtion index.

Perlite absorbs 10-90% of its weight while verm absorbs up tp 400% of its weight.

There is no reason perlite would not work in substrate, but verm works better.

I once had some substrate that was too wet after spawning, I added dry sterile perlite in order to reduce the overall moisture content of the substrate. It fruited fine.
