Fanning 2 times a WEEK ?

Hey gang,

I read Mickey's thread about his cake. I see that he said he only fanns 1-2 times a week when he mists, is this right? How come all the tek's and experienced mycologists say 1-3 times a day, or more? Can just opening the terr, misting and closing it remove the CO2 that sits at the bottom?

Someone clear this up

Thanks Moe, that was very.... educational.....

How come Mickey was fanning 1-2 times a week and not getting any bad effects. I thought excessive CO2 causes aborts and small mushrooms.....

i have heard that some strains can do without much fanning. i think it may have been GTs

it's not that just fanning once or twice a week is a good idea,
because it's not.
if a contam got started in there, stagnant humid air, it would be all over quickly.
i'd never skip a whole day fanning for that reason alone.
the simple truth is that cakes are very hardy, and can take alot of abuse and still fruit.
also cakes can tolerate high co2 levels, as is shown by invitro fruiting.
nevertheless, it's best to ventilate at least once a day,
just to prevent contams from getting a start.

Yes. The PF Tek doesn't even mention fanning.

haha that avatar reminds of I think it was cops but not sure some video I saw on tv of some dude that dressed up as superman and was walking around with a machine gun (not sure if it was real of not) I think they shot him...........

the pf tek also does not mention trich,
a common contam linked to stagnant air.

It must have been changed then. When I first bought the tek (years ago), it never mentioned fanning.

I fan twice a day....regardless.

I also have an air bubbler in each fruiting chamber.....for added air exchange.
