avoiding wrist problems
    #8351076 -

I recently started a new job as an apprentice bike mechanic, and I love it. For the last two days both of my wrists have been feeling a bit sensitive, probably from pumping tires and wrenching tight bolts. What kinds of stretches and exercises can I do do strengthen my wrists so I don't get tendonitis? I get it from time to time in my left wrist, triggered in the past by making espresso and typing and handwriting excessively. I love the physical work, but I'm definitly not used to it and I don't wanna trash my wrists and have to stop working when they need me as much as I need the paychecks.

On that note, if I do end up trashing my wrists, does anyone know the laws about worker's comp in Canada? Like, do you have to have been at a job a certain amount of time before you can get it?

Wrist strengthening advice on a forum full of internet junkie guys? :whacker:

These look pretty decent, or if you have one of those squishy stress balls lying around, gentle squeezing will definitely strengthen your wrists. I've also heard that static push-ups work well to properly align and alleviate wrist pain.

A static push-up is basically a regular push-up, minus the pushing and moving up. You should be in a regular push-up position, hands directly below shoulders, with your index and middle fingers touching the floor, rather than your palms. The backs of your hands and your forearm should be in perfect alignment, no bend. Straight back and no arching buttocks, of course, and balancing on your toes. Now you hold this position for as long as you're able to comfortably, and repeat a few times a day. I've never had wrist problems, but I've known a few people who assured me that statics helped a lot.

As for Worker's Comp, I'm pretty sure there isn't a minimum number of work days required to apply. At my current job I did a nice number on my thumb when it met the meat slicer, about a month into my job, and I didn't have any problems getting compensation for it. I'm pretty sure we're in the same Province so
