pasteurized compost water
    #831401 - 08/20/02 10:03 PM (14 years, 6 months ago)

For watering plants, can I use this stuff straight out of the pot, or should it be diluted?

Nothing beats compost tea. You can use it as is, or dilute it if you have many plants to feed. Either way is fine, but the more compost, the better.

Take a bunch of compost, put it into an old pillow case, sock or other cloth type thing that can act as a teabag, let it soak in a bucket or vat of water over night, and there you go. You have compost tea. There is no beter plant food than CT, and it doesn't matter how strong it is, you don't have to dillute it because it's not a chemical fert that can burn the roots if you use too much. We also make manure tea - take a 5 gallon bucket, fill it halfway with manure and then top it off with water. Let sit overnight and pour on your plants - tomatos, peppers, whatever....
Good stuff!

How long will this stuff store? How should it be stored?
Seems like I read somewhere compost tea doesn't stay good long.
Maybe that was just for mushrooms.
Does this apply for plants?

PS.....Put some on my plants 3 days ago and I can see they love it.

I use it w/in a day of making it....never tried to store it (or wanted to, for that matter)...pretty perishable, in my opinion - not to mention the 'ick' factor
