Perfect Compost outside.

So I was thinking of the perfect compost for outdoor herbs ```specifically nitrogen loving plants````, so far I have seaweed, horse manure, oyster shell, worm compost, local foliage, garbage waste, what else could I add cheaply? (note I am against chicken manure, as this is disease prone). Could this give me a good nitrogen compost?

Dried leaves will give you plenty of nitrogen. If you still want to add shit, get a bird feeder, and put a tray of some kind under it to catch the bird seed hulls and bird shit. That's good stuff. For the compost I mean.

Yeah, I guess dried leaves is good, my current compost is kitchen scraps, local dirt, with local slug/worm mutant things, little cat shit (left over from dead QZ) palm leaves, that's about it. I can't wait to dig up the little patch of garden leading to my apartment and lay down the compost, plus top it with peat moss, I think it may be a good flower bed. I need to invest in trash cans, as I have one, and rubbermaid charges 20$ or more for trash cans. If you have any linx, I would appreciated it.

You should see this Awa plant I'm going to go find, it grows native here, planted by the first polynesian immigrants to Hawaii, I'm going commercial.

Don't use cat shit! It's toxic, and can contain parasitic worms. A good rule of thumb to follow on shit is this, never use shit from soft pawed animals, it will be more likely to have worms, and they are more likely to be meat eaters, meat doesn't break down well in compost, even after it's been digested. Only use shit from hooved animals like cows, horses, and sheep. Also get rid of your slugs. They will eat your plants and don't break down compost. The only worms to use for compost are Red Wigglers. You can order them on line, but they can also be bought in most fishing stores. Make sure you ask for Red worms and not Night Crawlers. Crawlers won't do anything for compost. You can learn more about compost at www.gardenweb.com they have a compost forum.

Well I'm glad it was only 2 shits from the deck. Very small, these slugs are weird though, they only thrive after a kitchen waste deposit, so they must be eating the waste, and composting it, you don't think they are good?
these "slugs" do not leave residue, have eyes or noses, feelers, or anything, they seem like a worm/slug mix, There is a recent thread with a picture in this forum

I saw the pics, that is a slug. They live in the grass, come into your compost pile and eat all of your lettuce leaves or whatever, and then leave. They are stealing your nutrients. Worms on the other hand, help break down the garbage and keep it in the soil. Put some saucers of beer out near the comp. pile over night. The slugs will be attracted to the beer, go into the saucers, and drown. This is the best way to kill slugs.

wow, I just read a technique like that, I guess when my compost matures, or is done with nutrient then all the slugs will die inside the compost leaving me slug bodies, those must be nice to compost. If I bury the compost you think the slugs will be able to survive?

What do you mean? Do you want to bury the dead slugs, or bury the compost so the slugs can't get it?

I think the slugs are already dead, food scraps have been limited lately, I will check now, but there were thousands of slugs before when my compost was in the wet bacterial stage, but now I am making it dry, so I can finish this compost. I think they are already dead, so they served a purpose.
