morel growing
    #8283451 -

i have a culture for yellow morels that i think would be quite tasty, and profitable to take to farmers markets. i cant find anything about what type of substrate it needs, temperatures, ect. i dont know if growing the morels is the same process as growing cubensis and the like. furthermore, if i do get info on how to grow them, what is the best way to collect spores to keep growing them? i know the spores shoot out of the morel quite differently than other species. if anyone has any helpful links or info, i would be grateful.

well, that's cool. if i just knew a proper substrate and other info of that nature, i'm sure i could pull it off. if i have to get the book then so be it. i'll order it as soon as i can afford it. i just love morels, and no longer live in the country, or near any relatives that do, so no hunting this year:mad2: if i can figure the process out, i will be immersed in tastiness all year round, and can make some cash on the side.

it's been over a year since this has been posted, but i think i shall add what i am going to do once my new glove box has been assembled.

a ton of people from my town here go morel hunting around mid march, to early april, and have great luck. and ever single time they have found them, they say the are always around, if not under, felled elm trees. another point they made, was that there was not a whole lot of sunlight, never direct, but there was never a deficit, so maybe that might have a factor as well.

so what i am going to do, is try the whole vermiculite, sawdust, and wood chips tek in roger rabbit's "Let's Grow Mushrooms" videos, however substitute the random wood chips, and saw dust, for elm sawdust and elm wood chips. i would start off knocking up the jars and keeping them relatively cool, around say 60fahrenheit, until colonized. i would break them up, and put them into a compost type substance, using any random leaves and shit i would find around grow sites ( have yet to be to one, this year was way too wet ) and try to replicate the scenario as much as possible. once completely set up and ready to grow, i would drown it in water, and raise the temperature. keep away from direct sunlight, or in my case, lamp light, and see if i don't get pins.

there is just my two cents, hope this may help.

Its a poor-man's dehydrator and it gets the spores.
And the thread is the one we've been maintaining for a while now.

and another

Where all the information will be stored.

Tired of these damn threads getting knocked down.
