Salvia: High humidity vs low humidity
    #826953 - 08/19/02 12:27 AM (16 years, 2 days ago)

I am now growing salvia, and much of the information I have comes from SalviaEngland's website, and other sources proning high humidity. Now, what I would like to know, is if anyone preferes low humidity, and why...Also, if anyone has any information source about low humidity growing, please let me know. For info, I've been growing a cutting, and rooting one, under high humidity, and both are doing fine, execpt one cutting which was actually a broken branch without a nod... For the moment, high humidity and good air exchange seems to be the way, but if anyone isn't of that opinion, please explain why. Thanx.

Risks are higher for mould, fungus and bugs + more effort required...

"A salvia plant grown in a standard houseplant environment can quickly and easily produce more salvia than the average salvia user can use" TroutMask (2002) a spirit plants post..

I still prefer high humidity though...

I wouldn't say I favor low humidity, I just keep my plants around my house without much concern about humidity. I think the hunidity here ranges from 30 to about 50 or more. They might grow quicker in a high humidity enviroment, but just from trimming the bigger leaves off of the cuttings I take gives me more than enough leaves to smoke. I think a plant kept in a high humidity enviroment is also more susceptible to sunburn.

If you're prone to tending to your plants constantly then you can probably sustain a high humidity environment for it since you like to play a lot.

if not then you have to acclimate your plant to low humidity environments. It can be done just has to be done slowly. Unless of course you got your plants from a low humidity environment and they seemed acclimated enough.
