Brown salvia leafs, help! (pic).
    #534825 - 01/29/02 11:42 AM (15 years, 1 month ago)

The ends of my salvia plant are getting brown as you see in the pic, is this some kind of contamination ?
Also i intend to root a cutting from the left lower branch, do you think it's ready and where should i cut it ?

Peace,
MAIA

It is most likely undernourished. What are you feeding it? What type of soil is it in?

i would say you're not giving it enough water man! or you put it in a place with too much sun suddenly... you should take it off as some mold might wanna live there if you mist more....

The substrate is a potting soil, verm, manure mix. I water it 3 times per week, just mineral water nothing more, it might've been under direct sunlight a couple of times, i mist it two times per day.... mmm, maybe that's too much ?

This happens to mine too.......i dont mist mine....so i assumed it was from the low humidity (my house is always at 10-20%.....like a desert)......it seems the plants get used to their new environments soon enough though and this should clear up...maybe until another environmental change(humidity change,,a draft,,,,etc)......so its nothing to really worry about unless this happens to all your leaves and they fall off

it must be then low air humidity... where i live its always over 80%, you should put it on a wet place, or maybe a greenhouse or something that raises humidity... watch out for slugs when you get the humidity right... and send me a cutting when its stronger.

it's the humidity. Salvia's need a lot of moist. this happens a lot when indoor growing, nothing to worry for.
take 'em into your bathroom when showering afew times a week, the like the mist.
of coarse you can sprey them too.
you can make at least 3 cutting from that branche, or if you wait a while even more! check this out for making cuttings (very good pics):

enjoy!

Iv'e heard about bonding with your plant to give the experience a deeper meaning, but showering with it! The trips could get very intimate.
Sorry for going off-topic.

Thank you all.
It looks like they love to take a bath with me in the morning, the idea is good stefan, the leaves now have a greyish glowing pelicle and they look very healthy, also the brown spots haven't grown anymore. Now i guess i have an excuse to take a bath everyday :P

Peace,
MAIA

>you should put it on a wet place, or maybe a greenhouse or
>something that raises humidity...

Not a good idea in this case. The plant originates from me and it?s used on dry conditions, i keep mine in winter indoor where it has only 50% rh with no problems. If you sudenly put it into a high humidity it will only get worse.

I think it?s simply lack of light now in the winter time, perhaps you give the plant too much water?
Although the soil should never get really dry, contantly keeping the soil wet isn?t good either.

And something else: you said you water the plant woth mineral water? Mineral water often contains carbonate, which will rise the pH of the soil. Salvia need acidic soil, so watering with mineral water might not be such a good idea.
