Masturbation- Yay or Nay?

Western Science tells us that masturbation is healthy and natural...

But some yogi's, taoists, priests (christian and otherwise) suggest that masturbation dissipates valuable spiritual energy, and thus abstinence is advisable.

Regardless of all that, what is your oppinion/experience? Is it better to masturbate or not, from a conciousness/spiritual or health perspective?

Remember im not asking if you do or do not masturbate, but if you think abstinence or indulgence is more beneficial.

IMO, masturbation is not intrinsically beneficial nor harmful.  Humans are animals, and it is natural for us to seek sexual expression and pleasure.  However, it is possible to engage in masturbation in an unhealthy manner.  One's attitude towards self-pleasuring is what may be harmful, though, and not the activity itself.

Tantric masturbation is quite amazing, and has altered my already-positive view on sexuality for the better.  :thumbup:

I find masturbation an immensely valuable tool for staying sane, to the extent that I feel sorry for people who artificially deprive themselves of that tool in fear of invisible parental figures.

Artificial is attacking your penis aggressively (abuse) while imagining fucking a girl in your mind and having your way with her. It is a way of glorifying the alpha male ego in us without having to put any effort or good will towards the world, and it is a waste of the mind.

It is actually an act of separation from one self and not unity. I've stopped masturbating because I realized it was an attack on myself, and the pleasure I got out of it was lame, not to mention dishonest.

Masturbation is natural, in the sense that the industrial age was natural - nature finds itself in (man) a mechanized and dehumanized state of being. To be true to nature in it's present evolving being, we obey the new rule that says nihility must give way to transpersonalism.

I've heard this from a few other people before. They were all cranky and over-aggressive, all the time. Masturbation is a powerful balancing tool used by the body; if you really lose interest in yanking it, it's usually because you're too busy, which is always a thing to strive for. But knowingly and actively withholding instant sexual gratification from yourself creates conflict by itself, IME.

There is no need for it to be a conflict. Why divide oneself against oneself?

I don't think there's anything wrong with masturbation, but I did read somewhere that a certain chemical is excreted in your semen that depletes your brain of reasoning power in some way. That was from some sort of religious text, though, so I didn't place much importance on it at the time.

I did not vote 'Yay' or 'Nay' because IMO there is no right answer on this.  I think tantric masturbation if done with understanding could be very powerful; I have also heard that masturbating once every 8 or 9 days is optimal.  I've gone upwards of a month without it, and the most important thing I think is to be mindful and aware of the energies in that part of your body, and tend the carefully.  Completely denying or suppressing those energies can lead to frustration and suffering.  I definitely find hatha yoga to be more powerful the longer I have gone without rubbing one out. :yesnod:

I agree with going about 10 days before a release - at that point the energy can start to interfere with one's concentration. I suppose I should have said that habitual masturbation is abusive.

Nay. I consider semen to be a valuable bodily fluid and I try to conserve it as much as possible. Anyone interested in the pineal gland (third eye, DMT secretion) should at least research the subject of continence. Semen, as well as the pineal and pituitary glands have the highest concentrations of lecithin in the human body (source) so to me it seems that in order to maintain gland health, semen should not be wasted.
