~Cheap Cardboard Glove Box=Success Or Disaster??~
    #8220100 -

Ok..So I just finished making a cheap(literally)cardboard GloveBox.I got a cardboard box(it was in my closet),cut all the flaps but I left one flap on the top. Then I cut two arm size holes in the side.Next,I made two make-shift Tyvek sleeves(using Tyvek Envelopes). The sleeves fit nice and tight..and seal my wrists rather good:grin:.Then I taped the sleeves in the two holes..and put clear Seran wrap over the missing top flap. This will be my GB,when I inoculate,I simply put the materials inside by lifting the top cardboard flap and then taping it up tight when Im done.Now..my question is..I heard that cardboard will absorb alot of nasties..and it is a poor GB material.Am I ok with leaving the cardboard like that..or should I line with alumunm or something??Will Lysol and bleach sterilize the inside good enough??

a cardboard rigged still air box worked fine for me before i made a plastic one. just be sure to tape up every single seam, and crack.

as long as you spray the shit out of it with oust or another disinfecting spray you should be fine. the main thing you want to achieve is still air. most contams need air movement to travel, so keep that in mind.

as far as the aluminum... you dont need to reflect anything.

i just took a box, cut one of the long side flaps off, cut the two side flaps at an angle going downward toward the table, put saran wrap over the hole, taped it all up good, left enough room to fit my hands in, made sure there were no holes anywhere, lysoled the shit out of it and went to work. no contams.

anything that is able to hold still air can effectively be used for a glovebox.

I do all my "still air" work out back at a denny's in their dumpster. Close the lid and hold a flashlight. No air in, no air out. No contams.

I'm sure it would work just fine, knowing me I'm a bit paranoid and would line the inside with plastic film or foil if I had to settle for a cardboard box. A plastic storage tote is just a couple bucks and I think probably works much better for glove box purposes. I just cut some holes, used aluminum dryer vents which cost next to nothing, and a pair of kitchen gloves. Wah Lah, works great!
